    Slapper out of the box

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Heard another one this past weekend prior to playing. Had a coach tell her to slow feet down and move away from plate so she can go at it. Re3gardless, with all the help DD went 3 for 5 and the confidence has returned.

    Slapper out of the box

Well, in our neck of the woods there aren't a lot of coaches that believe in it so therefore, they don't coach it. Thus, umpires don't see it and all of sudden if a kid is a quarter of the way to the pitcher on a take she would have to be out of the box if she hit it. Not saying, she isn't...

    Slapper out of the box

DD just started HS ball. Has been called out of the box 3 times in 7 games. She rarely has any problem during travel (the occasional call, but nothing like this). Seems to be either outside pitch or after she takes a ball and is really out there after a take. Causing a lot of frustration. Any...

    Slap Hitting Struggle

I have go4um stuff and it is really good. As for making the change to lefty my daughter did it when she was half way through her 9u season. She told me just about a month ago it wasn't until almost the end of her 10u season did she feel comfortable over there. She was still successful during...

    Teaching the chop slap

Looking for specifics on the chop slap. The one that is chopped off the ground high into the air. Wondered if anyone had cues on hands, bat position, etc. Any help?

What traditional grip are you referring too?

    Coach Rant

So college teams don't cheer? I must need to adjust my TV then when I am watching because I could have sworn I heard some team from Tennessee or Georgia cheering ;). I agree there are some cheers that are derogatory and should not be done, but one thing that drives me nuts is watching a tennis...

    HS vs TB (again)

In Indiana, the rule is very specific: http://www.ihsaa.org/g-softball/2008-09/0809ParticipationRules.pdf The hard part is when you have a 14u team with some 8th graders waiting on the freshmen to complete their season. In Indiana, the better 12u teams will actually play up to 14u until the...

    Slapping resources

I have that video also. A good starting video that talks about footwork, depth of the ball at impact, etc. Does a good job with some drills off the tee, but again, not a lot of technical keys are given. I guess for my money the two part article in the NFCA magazine that was in the last two...

    Slapping resources

It's an introductory drill we use to get the footwork going without the use of the bat. You have the glove on the left hand and have a pitcher throw to them. The hitter works on the crossover step and and bringing the glove down to catch the ball in the strike zone. Mainly, it just gets the...

    Slapping resources

I am working with kids that have been slapping between 2-4 years. Read an interesting two part article by NFCA that did some really good work on looking at elite slappers, but wanted to see if there was anymore stuff out there.

    Slapping resources

Not sure if this is the forum for this, but we'll give it a go. I am looking for advanced slapping resources: drills, video, etc. We have done the beginning stages with the batter at the plate with a glove working on catching the ball and progressed to the tee. What I am looking for are more...

    Lead Runner?

There was actually a study done by a division I coach (it was either Veroni or Hutchinson) that looked at this exact question. It turns out that there was an overwhelmingly greater possession of the time were just getting the out over trying to get the lead runner was more successful. This...

    Trouble with looping

I have seen some of the same stuff by Epstein and I agree with both of you - hanging on the back laeg can be as bad as lunging (this is not waht she is doing at all). I do think you might be right in a little disconnect from the shoulders. She does do a really nice job of getting back to what...

    Trouble with looping

Yes, she was taught load up on back leg like Epstein. She did go to a camp where a guy gave a really bad tip of really rolling out to front foot as she would go through the ball, but that has been fixed. However, this looping came with it. She doesn't do it every time, but enough I have...
