She was a biology major. Biology majors make up around 50% of the students admitted to the vet school she is attending. Animal Science is 2nd at around 25%. Her undergrad did not offer animal science. She would have majored in biology anyway. All of her back up plans involved areas of human...
DD was just notified that she was accepted to veterinarian school. She is beyond thrilled with this outcome. There were 2100 applicants for 125 positions. On her application she highlighted her time management skills as a college athlete. She also used her trials overcoming several serious...
Vet school is much better from a cost benefit analysis right now. There is a huge shortage of veterinarians. Starting salaries have skyrocketed. Some new grads are getting 140000+. No small animal grads or taking jobs for less than 120000 unless it is in Nowhere, USA. In addition, they are...
Watched Carrie Eberle (VT) pitch against Megan Goode (JMU) a few years ago. Both teams had girls behind the backstop using the radar on every pitch. Eberle was consistently 68-69 and hit 70 once. Goode was consistently 70-71 and occasionally hit 72.

DD is a senior in college so her journey is fast coming to a close. When she left for college I kept my job as assistant coach on her travel team. It has been good except for the rides home from tournaments. It is kinda lonely without dd in the car.

The important thing to remember is depending on the priority your dd gives softball and playing time. There is a school for every girl who has put on a glove.

1. Economics
2. Education
3. Other factors (school location, size, etc al)
4. Softball
Other key factors...
I have not seen as much NAIA as I have the other divisions. Based on my experience in the Mid-Atlantic schools they have the same wide range of teams as the other divisions. There are NAIA schools that are happy to have anyone come out all the way up to schools that would complete against good...
Most d3 pitchers throw 55-62. Successful ones hit their spots with movement most every time. Very successful ones hit their spots most times with movement and have a good change up. There are some that throw 64-65 but they are certainly the exception and most cannot stay at that speed for 7...
Barring injury, college teams rarely give more than 2 catchers significant playing time. For many teams, 1 catcher gets the majority of the playing time. DDs coach brought in 7 players that are listed as catchers this year. According to DD, the coach said 2 would be chosen to stay at catcher...
Make sliding fun. At this age, slip and slides are fun. When I coached rec at the young ages, I would bring a slip and slide to a couple of practices. The girls loved it. At the end of the first practice, they just slid down the slippy slide. At the next practice, we worked on sliding technique...
Ask her what she wants to do. For most kids, playing is more fun. For other, the prestige of being on varsity is more important. She needs to decide which she would rather do if the coaches give her the option. If they have communicated to her that her role will be to pinch run, that is probably...
