Struggling player - what to do as a parent?

We are just about to start that! There is an awesome personal trainer at a local gym who works with a lot of high school and college students and we signed her up for some sessions (with DD's permission and interest, of course). The goal isn't to "just" improve fitness for softball, but overall...

More great insight and perspective. Thank you!

Struggling player - what to do as a parent?

Agree with all of this. Thank you! I needed some objective people to give ME some straight talk. Truly, this helps a ton and brings my micro-managing mom personality back down to earth.

Struggling player - what to do as a parent?

Not harsh at all....because it is true. And, I think I am embarrassed to admit that. It really is more of my issue. Sigh. It's just so hard to not want to fix everything and make sure that they don't fail. It's hard to watch them fail. I know that is what makes them a better, stronger person in...

Struggling player - what to do as a parent?

I've wondered that myself. But, anytime her dad or I say something like "it's absolutely fine if you're ready to move on from softball" she seems almost shocked that we would say that.

Struggling player - what to do as a parent?

Enjoys the sport and enjoys the team atmosphere and teammates. Is currently in high school and wants to play until she graduates, but no illusions that she will play in college, except for fun.

Struggling player - what to do as a parent?

Great questions! To be honest, she struggles with confidence in many areas of life. Seems especially more apparent after the year of COVID isolation. :( Her coach encourages her and is constantly trying to teach and help her improve. But, perhaps an outside instructor would be a great idea...

Struggling player - what to do as a parent?

My DD is on an upper B-level 16U travel team. Has played softball since she was 6. While she enjoys the game and LOVES being with the team, her overall game skills are average…at best. There are times where you see the potential for her to be an above average player Great focus, good athletic...

Helping daughter with confidence in the outfield

Hi all- Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies, advice and support. I am thrilled to let you know that my DD is starting to settle in and feel much more confident in RF....even after just a week since I posted this message. She has had about 10 games in the past week (2 double-headers and...

Helping daughter with confidence in the outfield

This is great - thank you! #2 hits it on the head. We've talked about abstract plans ("I can hit you some balls sometime....we can work on it"), but not a concrete plan like you mentioned. That is a great idea and something that she would take much more seriously and give her something to focus on.

Helping daughter with confidence in the outfield

My 14U daughter recently moved up to a team with a much better level of play and players. Previously, she was one of the better players on her lower-level team, mostly playing catcher and 3rd. Now that she has moved up, she is one of the lesser skilled players and is not going to see much time...
