    Why D1 ?

How about a macro calculation? That is: How much money did 18U players (HS seniors actually) trying to get recruited spend as a population during their careers vs how much D1 scholarship money is out there? E.g. (and this is with very very loose guesses here): 600k travel ball players 8U-18U...

The CWS shows bulletspin--rewriting the book on movement pitches

Yes, I guess we're left groping for some definitions, as well as distributions of results (e.g. what percentage moved 1" horizontally vs 3" vs 6", etc). In the absence of this info, we can do some mental gymnastics for fun though: 4-seam fastball spins would be predominantly 12-6 (topspin) or...

The CWS shows bulletspin--rewriting the book on movement pitches

I'm curious about what this Rapsodo chart is saying about fastballs: An average pitcher in college could get their fastballs to move 6 inches in a vertical direction and/or 6 inches in the horizontal plane at what seems like spin rates on the lower end of the spectrum for a rise or a curve...

Headfirst Honor Roll camps - thoughts?

Older thread but I’m going to ask here instead of a new thread: I had a question regarding the defensive showcase session at Headfirst. Are the players separated into pitchers, catchers, IF, OF? Could anyone comment on what metrics are measured for pitchers? OF? Or any other position group...

In-game pitching videos for recruiting: any good tips or examples?

Gentlemen, this is actually great food for thought. Tazman, I want you to know I got my video down to 3 mins last night and will trim a bit further :-) And gator5, thank you for being kind enough to share your ideas and example; I think I understand the feel I'll be striving for thanks to...

Wow, thank you for this; your daughter is a great pitcher. I did feel the range and mix for her pitches while watching your video. The rise/fastball looks great and the change is unexpected; movement in and out. No wonder she had the results she did! Thank you very much for this, it was very...

In-game pitching videos for recruiting: any good tips or examples?

That makes a lot of sense. Shorter sounds like good advice. I wanted to show pitches that caught the batter looking as well as swinging and also show a couple of pitches that appear sufficiently "tunneled" to try to gather interest. But then I got into showing pitching sequences and getting...

In-game pitching videos for recruiting: any good tips or examples?

Trying to put together a video of in-game footage of DD pitching for college coaches. Any tips? My first pass resulted in a collection of every strike she threw during a weekend tourney :ROFLMAO::rolleyes: Curious about length of video, types of pitches shown (just 3rd strikes? or...

    D1 Colleges/Universities with pre-med tracks and softball

The Muppet Show was a weekly ritual for sure! The Peppa avatar is from my DD's fav episode involving Peppa not being able to whistle. DD would walk around reciting the lines from this phone call scene using her best UK accent and have me on the floor most times.

Oh, take a look and see how many orthopedic surgeons were former athletes 😄

    D1 Colleges/Universities with pre-med tracks and softball

“Premed track” is possibly a better term. I have doctor friends who were English majors that just also took the prerequisite courses and scored well on the MCATs. Stanford has a few players supposedly on the premed track. A sister of one of DD’s coaches came from their softball program to...

Colleges who CAN START RECRUITING EARLY befor D1's

This is all highly educational for me; thanks to all that responded and clarified. If I were to try to unify the comments I've heard outside of and here at DFP, I think the skill level of the student athlete involved has to be included (along with team/institutional need). The recruiting...

Colleges who CAN START RECRUITING EARLY befor D1's

Apologies Pattar, didn't mean to cause you grief. I think we all agree on the cost issue, yes. It has become so that the admissions and fin aid offices, other than the coaches, continue to be equally important in whether an athlete can join a college team.

Colleges who CAN START RECRUITING EARLY befor D1's

Your point is well taken as the avg need based fin aid numbers are surprisingly high (probably due to their ginormous endowment) and just over half of their students get fin aid. But if you come from an expensive real estate location (e.g. California, NY), it becomes pretty tough to qualify for...
