College players - frustrated and tired of it?

Thanks for the replies, I really do appreciate it. Things have been about the same since I posted my question. I’m so sad to see it but I think it’s a combination of adulthood, covid, and some things with the team and coaches. I’ll appreciate what’s to come for what will likely be her last...

College players - frustrated and tired of it?

My DD is going into her Senior year of playing DI college ball. These past two years have really taken so much away; I think it has changed her attitude significantly. Has anyone else experienced that? I never thought I'd see the day where she lost her enthusiasm for the game. I've always said...

Curious. For Large D1 Programs, how many walk-on's do they carry on roster?

DDs school had 25 on the roster. it was my understanding that there were two recruited walk ons and 2 that walked on after the school year started. i have no idea how many scholarships her school has available.

    Sunglasses recommendations

This is not necessarily a college softball topic but DD is in her freshman year and will be playing outfield - she’s asked for some sunglasses for Christmas. Anyone have recommendations of a good brand/type that has worked well for your DD? Thanks for any suggestions.

    new College Freshmen DD check-in

DD has a double header this Saturday and it will be her last set of scrimmages for the fall. We'll miss it but look forward to the season start in the spring! No idea how much to read into what the coaches are thinking, but she's played at least one full game (the 1st game) of each of the...

    new College Freshmen DD check-in

Hi - wondered if others would be willing to share what they're hearing from their daughters and how the experience is going so far. Mine has bonded well with her team and especially with a smaller sub-group of 4 incoming freshmen. She's at a mid D1. The work is hard (up early for classes...

Just dropped her off at college

My DD left a little over a week ago too. I agree, there were many nights home alone with DH because the kids were out for the evening, but it feels very different! I'm lucky and glad that she's not too far and I can go see her team's fall scrimmages at the end of this month!

started as walk on - future scholarship question

I should have been more clear. The assumption where I thought *maybe* scholarship money would be considered was one where the player was a starter and doing well batting. But I get the message that nothing is guaranteed even when the player is key to the team! Part of my question was whether...

started as walk on - future scholarship question

My DD is a recruited walk-on at her D1 school. We are happy with that and it is in state for us so it was still cheaper than other options we looked at. But I am curious about how it might work in future years - I've heard that in year 2 or 3 if a walk on is playing and playing well, they may...

    D1 College Coaching Merry-Go-Round

I thought D1 coaches signed long term contracts. When they leave is it because the contract ended, they broke their contract, or the school fired them? Or, do they not all have contracts? I believe the coach at the D1 my DD starts at in the fall just signed another 5 year contract so I was...

    Scholarships

I wasn't aware of the academic scholarship rules but just looked it up...the requirements for D1 schools that are noted in the post above are that you must meet ONE of those requirements, not all. Glad to see that as my daughter meets the ACT requirement and is getting an academic scholarship...

How to Survive (And Thrive) in the Challenging World of College Sports

Thanks for this - DD starts first year of college ball this fall - I forwarded it to her! It's a great, easy read with great tips. I'm anxious and excited for her and just hoping it is all she's dreamed it would be. She knows it's hard, but I'm not sure she realizes just how hard it will be.

2018's: How is the college recruiting process going?

My DD is frustrated because she emails and doesn't get responses from many. She is a 5'4 lefty - fast (2.9 to first), with a high batting average and sometimes power hitter, but not a slapper. Last year's 18U A travel team she batted first on, this year's 18U Gold team she bats second. High...
