Finding playing time for 11 in 12u should be easy for the coach. At season end, find another team and broaden your softball skills. Dont rely solely on pitching. Not many scenarios where the #3 pitcher gets a lot of mound time. I think back thru the years 12u, 14u, 16u and now 18u for my DD..#3s...
So do you and Rolling Hard have committed daughters? I mean I get it. You want to be part of the process, but like it or not, most all coaches aren't really interested in what you have to say, especially in the early stages..
Is she having fun and improving? In 10u its the only things that matter imo. Because imo there are 2 reasons girls quit in 14u, either they no longer enjoy it or they arent getting better and get left behind or both. And no I dont think winning/losing matters in 10u. My dd was on the same...
right and talent gets pulled from those so-so teams to the elite teams over time..ie the talent consolidates generally speaking..at least that is what I see..
Which is exactly why I never let my (always the tallest/biggest kid on the roster) DD pitch? I knew she had 'some' talent in 10u along with some size. I didn't want her focus to get too narrow and not learn how to be a ball player. I guessed right. She is a 6'0 power hitting corner that...
Most talent (please don't take that the wrong way, it's just reality) consolidates to the big orgs. My only regret is that I didn't move my DD sooner. In my opinion, it depends on your kids talent level. You don't really want your kid to be the best player on the team in 12u/14u imo. Moving to...
If the team is competitive, then it really is the coaches duty to put the best product on the field to win games, no exceptions. If the team isn't very good, then I would think a HS coach would be more apt to share playing time beyond a set 7-9 players. I know hs coaches can be brutal but...
Local kid Ive known since she was playing rec ball at age 7 didnt have "it" in 10u, 12u and 14u..but then in 16u, she found "it"..committed to upper D1 school last week. She was and is a tireless worker who didn't quit working on her craft..
8u,10u,12u - local team 5-10 minute drive
14u - more of a regional team 20-25 minute drive
16u - national team with a 1 hr drive with some girls that are 2-3 hours away
what's crazy is that there are some kids at the 14u and 16u level that don't practice with their TB team on a regular basis...
I think what you are describing is very common. Girls come in 2nd and that sucks. As a dad of 3, no greater joy for me than to watch my 2 girls and son play their preferred sport. Unfortunately though when it comes to resources, boys win out. My middle DD started playing softball 9+ yrs ago and...
Its funny back when my DD played 10u and 12u travel, I really thought stats mattered. Now that my DD is on a 2nd yr 16u national team with recruitment about to kick in high gear this summer, I realize that stats in gamechanger really dont matter. I care about good at bats, fundamental defense...
Very true, small kids definitely have to work harder to get noticed. I can tell you my 5'11 170lb DD certainly gets noticed at camps, but that can be good or bad. She still has to perform.
