    Do softball pitches "move"?

https://www.discussfastpitch.com/threads/diamond-kinetic-question.39961/page-2 Rapsodo data from the above 2021 thread. The average TOTAL spin for D1 is between 992-1337. I doubt any of the pitches will have more than 1140RPM (19 RPS) true spin. their most recent college softball pitching...

    Do softball pitches "move"?

softball is heavier and the travel distance is shorter. Not to consider the small hand handling a big ball thing, it is still harder to make a softball move than baseball.

For people who believe in physics, good reading for new year's day. http://baseball.physics.illinois.edu/Briggs.pdf There must be more similar research and experiment done for baseball/softball. All we want to know is how fast you need to spin the ball in order to have some noticeable...

    Do softball pitches "move"?

It is physics. I just need to know how fast the spin rate is and I can calculate the moving distance in the direction of the spin https://isjos.org/JoS/vol7iss1/Papers/JoSV7p3-BallSpin.pdf

    Do softball pitches "move"?

I will bite the bullet. For soccer and Ping Pong, even tennis, it is very obvious that the ball break. Why not softball? It is physics. Once the ball left the hand, only gravity and air friction can move the ball. Any kind of break you want to see should be the result of air friction. a=F/m...

she is 10 and she can learn. The question is she needs a coach to convince her it is fine to do that and re-teacher her to do that. After all those arguments and tears to get her out of crow hopping and leaping, now we want it back.

It is too late cause I made her stop crowing hopping and leaping and she pitches too legal now.

I think you guys successfully convinced me that leaping has an advantage. So here is the question, should I ask DD to start to leap now? It has an advantage, never got called, and will become legal in 2-4 years. Why not?

The second-year DD started playing softball, I decided that I need to understand this game better. So I signed up to umpire the rec league game in order to get free training. The above video was one of the videos they showed us.

She plays D1 softball and should follow NCAA rules. NCAA rule says bearing weight, replant = crow hop. So she crow hop. Why do other rules or other people's definitions even matter?

Not true. NCAA rule 2014-2015 already had bearing weight wordings.

Well, if you think Barnhill did NOT crow hop.....

NCAA 10.5.5 The pitcher is not allowed to hop or drag to a replant (crowhop), gain a second starting point and push off her pivot foot. Once having lost contact with the pitcher’s plate, the pivot foot may trail on the ground but may not bear weight again until the pitch is released.
