    Facemasks

We watched a professional softball game Sunday night (Carolina Diamonds vs. Akron Racers). It was a great game, and I'd highly recommend seeing a professional game if you can. During the game, I noticed that some of the fielders were wearing masks and about half of the batters were wearing...

How Do You Score This Play?

    Thanks for the clarification.

How Do You Score This Play?

So if the batter/runner makes it to first base safely by beating the throw, it would be recorded as a passed ball?

How Do You Score This Play?

This is probably a simple question, but how do you score a strikeout with a dropped third strike when the batter/runner reaches first base safely? Would it be K E2? Thanks for letting me know.

New to coaching Coaching Girls 12u Fast Pitch..

Does anyone have any experience with the Pronine LPM12 softballs? They have a cork center, Kevlar stitching, and smooth seams. They are supposed to be good for fielding practice using a pitching machine, but I haven't tried them myself. I also don't want to use dimpled balls for fielding...

Depends on your definition of catchable. The umpire is to judge an IF if the batted ball COULD be caught with normal effort by an infielder, pitcher or catcher. And that judgment is supposed to be made at the apex of the ball's flight. If a ball goes up over the IF and the umpire believes that...

An infield fly MUST be a catchable ball. It should be, but it may not be. The fair batted ball must simply be able to be caught, in the umpire's judgment, with normal effort by an infielder, pitcher or catcher. I'm confused by your statement. To me, "catchable ball" and "be able to be caught"...

    Another Infield Fly Rule Experience

I feel your pain also. Last year during a rec. league game, my DD hit a line drive at 1B with the bases loaded. 1B jumps straight up and nicks the bottom of the ball with the tip of her glove. The ball lands 10 feet past the dirt in right field. My DD makes it to first base, the runner on...

    Continuation play

The ball should be to F3 before the batter/runner gets there, so it's not obstruction. If the pitcher is hesitant and doesn't get the ball to F3 soon enough, F3 needs to move forward toward the ball and out of the batter/runner's way. At that point if the runner on third is going, F3 should...

Finding the Right Length/Weight Bat And How To Protect It

My DD uses an Easton Synge (32/-11.5) for real softballs and an Easton Mystique (32/-11.5) for anything else. Both bats feel exactly the same, but the Synge is a composite and the Mystique is aluminum. I've hit dimpled softballs in batting cages with the Mystique, and the balls being used at...

    Easton synge

You can also purchase two 2010 Synges for $180, which is a great deal. My DD has been using a Synge for over a year now, and I'm tempted to get two more "just in case". Ultimately I know I won't, but at $90 per bat it's very tempting.

    Continuation play

I don't think I was clear in my post. F3 is not "on" first base. F3 would be 10 feet off first base in the base path between first and second. As soon as the batter/runner continues, F1 throws to F3, F3 tags the batter/runner and then throws to F2 if the runner on third is going home. It's...

    Continuation play

I would think F2>F1>F3 to get the runner rounding first, then F3>F2 to get the runner going home would be more efficient. F3>F2 is only 60 ft. while F6>F2 is 84 ft.

    Continuation play

This makes the most sense to me. Throw the ball to 1st, tag the batter/runner as soon as they step off the bag, and then throw home if the runner on third is going. My question is when can the runner on third leave third base to run home? Do they have to wait until the batter/runner touches...
