You had me at my daughter... I have read alot of posts here and if I were that coach, I would have probably done the same thing. I have a question, did he ask you to track batting averages, or did you do it to develop evidence to use against his batting lineup logic? Batting averages are just...
This is an issue in most every organization. There was a senior coach in our org that did the exact same thing as you are describing, however, my rag-tag bunch of rec kids after 3 years were coached up to the point where I had a better team. He folded his team and I was able to pick up, and I...
Hi Everyone,
There is a remarkable thing happening in Colorado Softball. Pitching has become an endangered species. Teams all over our city are folding because of pitchers changing teams, playing up, etc. It is an epidemic when some of the most established organizations are losing teams...
Here is a letter I wrote to a family in this exact situation...Right after State, he came up to me and thanked me for crushing his daughter's dreams. She is a great, humble kid.
Dear R-,
R-, I was disappointed with our last interaction, but I need to talk to you in person or we can email.
It...
I use the heavy balls to warm up before games where most of the time space is limited. I've never used them in practice. I like for the girls to get full swings hitting with full effect. I pitch to them myself live...and I'm not too proud to say, I have pitching lessons so I can use the windmill...
At 14U one time after a particularly ugly set of errors, we were still ahead but then by less of a margin. The girls were getting tight and frustrated and worried. I called time and walked to the mound and just started speaking Spanish to them as fast as I could, I didn't really even know all...

This is a delayed steal and you are right, a savy team will not allow you to do it. They will throw down to third to cut it off, and rarely will they get baited into it. It might work at the end of a long day where kids are tired and not that sharp. The key is to keep the kid on second at a...
This is what I was going to say...
When it comes to softball, I am finding that economies of scale and marketing are two huge aspects of being part of an organization, insurance costs, practice fields, care of those fields, etc. I would not, under any circumstances, join an org where there...
I get such a kick out of a dad saying his daughter is slow, it doesn't make me feel so bad. My DD is our #1 pitcher and she plays first. I don't like her throwing in the outfield.
I can't begin to tell you what a relief it is to read this post. My DD is 14 and our ace pitcher, 5-hole hitter with 3hr etc., and she is starting to realize that if she doesn't pick up some power and speed on her fastball and footspeed, the game is going to leave her behind. Her room, her...
She is not better because somehow along her journey, she lost the passion and instead of improving and becoming a competitor, she turned into a softball player, I think some if it started at home.
I gotta tell you eddieq, yours is probably a very good policy, but I had a solo umpire do that and it looked like he was talking to a phantom partner out there, needless to say the girls asked me who he was talking to. :D
Oh and another thing...I watch the umpires when I have kids on 1-2 with less than 2 outs to make sure they know the IFR is in effect and usually if there is a mistake one of the umpires catch it in their signal or no signal.
