Actually, where I'm from, Canada, it's U12.
Thank you all for your feedback! Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I've been looking at the DeMarini CF5, Easton Synge, Easton Typhoon and Worth Mayhem. They are reasonably priced composite bats. I was all about lighter bats but...
Hi all,
I'm coaching a U12 team and want to get some composite bats. It's hard for me to figure out what size bats they should be using - I'm more concerned about the weight. They're playing a higher level of ball this year with faster pitching, so I'm thinking the lighter the better...
As an umpire, I find this the hardest thing to grasp as well. I still don't know it by heart, and I pretty much just have to read and review it over and over. Unfortunately (or fortunately, even), I can't practice learning it through applications because it rarely happens!
I'm not a fan of facemasks, but that's only because I grew up without them. I can see older people saying the same thing about the use of cages on helmets, which I am very used to. My question is, do you guys ever plan on taking the masks away from your daughters when they get older? If they...
I prefer being called blue or ump over anything else. If the coaches know my name, and call me by my name, everything becomes personal and I don't like it. When I umpire, I don't want to be noticed and I don't want to be a person with a name...just the invisible blue making the calls and keeping...
Can someone break down the logic of picking visitors in a drop dead timed game? I'm not getting it.
If you're visitors, and you're up to bat when the time runs out, it reverts back to the last inning, so whatever you scored doesn't even matter, and you're going to get as many chances to bat as...
I wouldn't call this bad sportsmanship. I'd call it strategy. Whatever it takes to win a game. Time is part of the sport in some instances and using the excuse "softball games shouldn't be timed" is just silly in my opinion. Yes, maybe they shouldn't be timed, but they are, and time is now part...
I disagree. But then again, I'm not American so maybe the rule or application is taught differently.
There is a signal for when it's on, but you know, you do it at the beginning of the at-bat in a situation, and sometimes that at-bat takes 10 pitches, and once the batter pops it up, you've...
Here is my criteria for calling an infield fly rule:
- Less than two outs
- Runners on first second, or bases loaded
- Pop up to the infield - the infield is established by the position of the players, not any part of the ground (e.g. where the dirt ends or where the grass starts).
- Ordinary...
I'm surprised at how harsh people are being. Yeah, you were probably a d-bag at that moment who screwed up pretty badly, but I've seen worse. I wouldn't go as far as saying you should be ashamed of yourself.
I would however, call you on an interference. The offensive team/coach can be called...
The way I see it, a shortstop is already facing the right way with her glove facing the incoming runner. A second baseman would have to turn awkwardly to make a good tag.
As people have said, it is generally used and taught to help with breathing and timing. International and olympic pitchers still grunt, and it's definitely not to distract the batter. It's just a way of timing their breathing.
I've seen batters grunt when they hit too, because of the amount...
I'm 19 and I'm not a strong player. By strong I mean physically powerful. I have international coaches as parents, so I've been brought up with good mechanics, with a few flaws here and there like any other. I play mostly outfield, and though I have a decent speed and can catch balls well, I...
You know, it's weird watching the sport evolve sometimes. I've been playing fastpitch for about 14 years, and obviously there were no facemasks back then.
It was even weird to see the helmets getting cages when I was little, but I've seen people like myself get hit in the face when batting...
