Any miracles? Hitting hip: good pitcher to poor pitcher in 2 weeks

Good stuff Ken, thanks! I actually found this thread before I posted. Definitely working on firming up but she's dealing with some back issues(hereditary) that make it hard for her at the moment but it's on the list of things to do.

I've talked to her about this and it's something that she will be working on as well. Agreed. The stabilization of the front leg has been somewhat of an issue for a long time. Amongst the other things, something else we are working on. Thanks for your input!

    Interesting, I'll check it out.

Understood, definitely something we're going to work on. I will update this post with her progress. Thank you!

Absolutely agree, I've told her that the ball goes that way because she is literally releasing it to that spot. I will take a look at the sticky again. Thanks for your input!

    Hitting hip and throwing inside

I understand at this stage of the game not to look to tweak the finer details, but that is not the case here. For the last 6 months or so this has been an issue, one where she has not had much success at all. The most recent PC teaches different mechanics than her previous PC and she just...

    Hitting hip and throwing inside

These videos were taken after we made an adjustment to the lower half, basically keeping the hips more closed, much how she used to be. This is different from the first videos where she was still trying land and stay open during the release of the ball. The reason we made this adjustment was...

This is really good and very helpful, thank you for putting this together!

    Hitting hip and throwing inside

As requested, here's some video. She's only throwing fastballs here. As you can see in the last one video, this has been typical where the ball trails inside and down when she misses. Today we worked on walk throughs, striding straight out instead of across her powerline, trying not to force...

    Hitting hip and throwing inside

This has been my experience as well while coaching, it's bananas to me. As a youngster, I always threw an overhand throw with backspin and so did most of the people that I played with.

I would dare say that the "swim" is a newer technique that is taught with pitchers that are more closed/hips facing the catcher when they release the ball versus an older technique where the ball is released with the hips more open. In the older technique, the arm is taught to stay inline. For...

    Hitting hip and throwing inside

I agree there is no such thing as "natural bullet spin", maybe I worded it poorly. What I meant to say is that every time she throws a fastball, it has some sort of spin, usually bullet, or movement to it. It's been like that for as long as I can remember. I will add that recently during a...

    Hitting hip and throwing inside

We're at the point of trying rough guesses(lol) but it goes along the lines of what I was thinking as well. I feel she probably needs to be a bit more open at release as she finds it's hard to throw the ball going across her body. Her natural release seems to be right off the hip.

I was actually thinking the same and was going to work on walk-throughs with her this weekend. Thanks!

Ok, yes that makes sense. This issue starting to rear it's ugly head about the time the hips were developing. Also, previous PC had her hips more closed upon release and it didn't happen quite as often as it does now. We'll give this a try. Thank you for your input!
