For some kids/families it just isn’t worth it. For others it is. Some do national teams for the exposure/experience and they can afford to. For others it just isn’t possible. Everyone has different goals. If a kid wants to play at a school in the SEC/PAC12 or other regular top 25 school being on...
A showcase team is its own team with tryouts like any other team. In general people use the term ""showcase team" because the main goal is to showcase for college coaches.
Agree. Around/after 14u somewhere is when some kids/families have to leave the team they have been with to accomplish what they need to do as far as showcasing and getting the opportunity to play in college.
The scenario I most commonly see are good dad/mom coaches through 10/12/14 who have...
Sort of true. I do know that non athletes with similar grades as softball players might have no chance to get into some ivy league or higher academic school. They still need good grades, but not as high as what a non-athlete might need. I know girls who got into Ivy programs with 1800-2000 SATs...
That's interesting. I wonder why no one from the original org is on top showcase teams? Are they not good enough? Or is it something else?
I seem to find that after 14U players need to find a showcase/exposure team that suits their goals. I'd say its pretty rare that a young 10 or 12U team stay...
I think a coach is at minimum interested in but not necessarily recruiting a player if they tell the head coach to have them come to a camp. I think they are being recruited if they tell the head coach they want them to call them or come on campus for a visit.
In HS, there are a few dominant pitchers, everyone else is somewhat average. Obviously a dominant pitcher helps, but if you don't have that you have to do with what you have. The difference between those teams with average pitchers and winning is defense. A good defense can keep a team in the...
Above is good advice, but IMHO your job at this stage is to help them by educating them and their parents about the recruiting process as much as possible. They need to know how to help themselves. Your job as a coach should more be to get them ready to play in front of these coaches (attitude...
wow. this was me 10 or so years ago. I never coached girls softball before that. With my first group I dont think any could catch, throw or hit so I just focused on getting them to get a lot of reps in and do my best not to make it boring or get too critical on form. In our area it was still tee...

Looks like it was intentional to me. Lucky the runner did not get really hurt.
Coaching your kid during games regularly when you are not in the dugout to me is typical helicopter parenting and in the long run probably does more damage than good. Now I'm not just saying leave them out there to dry if they are struggling or asking for help, but it really should not be the...
IMO a Varsity letter is not the same as a participation trophy. It's not really even a trophy or medal. Its something you earn by making the team and fulfilling the requirements for a varsity letter. Granted in some schools it may seem to be a bigger deal than others if its hard to make varsity...
