    How do you decide?

More than a few. At least one with every team my DD has played with since 10U. With my DD's current 16U team, there is one player that has gone from a part-time OF and lower-half hitter to a starting OF (often in CF) and a top-4 hitter over the last few months. She's been working her @$$ off...

    How do you decide?

Generally speaking, I'm an advocate of earning your playing time by doing the work to be better than the current starting player in the position you want. Being "as good" isn't enough to get a coach to replace someone who has earned that spot and kept it for a long time. Be better. Be...

Guess I'll start an off-topic thread?

Agreed. Every one of their starting 9 are tremendously dangerous hitters...no matter which 9 start. There is tons of amazing young talent in the game of baseball these days, and it seems the Dodgers have an extra-large serving of it, with most of it coming from their own farm system.

Dodger Blue has flowed in my veins since the days of pretending to be Garvey, Cey, and Yeager in the front yard with my neighborhood buddies. Today, I'm a very happy old man.

Batting the best 9 in pool play

Sounds to me like the coach was trying something different to see how it worked out...and it didn't. Being that the scores were as lopsided as they were, it also sounds like the team was significantly out-matched, and batting more or less players probably wouldn't have made much difference in...

    Big organizations.

Make the decision that's right for your DD. You know her better than anyone. Keep in mind what she wants - it's her journey, not yours. I've seen too many kids lose the love of the game by getting pushed too hard too early.

    Big organizations.

it sounds to me like there are enough reasons to look for a better place for her to play. That said, I'm not a fan of telling a young player that she will only play in certain situations. In what you described (only bracket and ship games), it sounds like the coach is putting way too much...

    Big organizations.

Through 12U, the quality of coaching (player development, not winning games) is the second most important thing for your DD. The first most important thing is your DD having fun. "Fun" doesn't mean goofing off and not working hard. "Fun" means she enjoys playing and practicing the game. Good...

    Rawlings buying easton

Compete with which type of products? Seems to me Wilson has a pretty good piece of the baseball market already.

    Rawlings buying easton

Interesting, but I don't see Rawlings pushing out Wilson. Wilson's market share is pretty large.

    I agree with that.

Needs to put in the work!!

At about the same age, my DD (now 16) wasn't really motivated to do extra work outside of team activities. It didn't help that we ended up battling with each other far too often when we were on the field together. The approach I took was to offer to work with her, and leave it up to her to...

    Allie 1st Year 10u

I see a much more "front of the body" swing in this example of Markakis. He doesn't use same pullback with the back, or dynamic scap retraction, as we see in the swing of Mookie.

    Allie 1st Year 10u

Depends. If the hands/arms need to adjust forward for timing, it will release earlier than if the ball is being hit deep in the zone. I like the idea of early scap retraction and maintaining that pullback through barrel launch. One of the challenges Maddie has been dealing with is not getting...
