Thanks MIB. I’d say your example of obstruction at 35 feet from the plate never gets called. I’ve never seen it at least. As for the OP’s picture, I feel like that is only called 50-50 at best. No doubt it is a judgment call. Just pointing out that the umpire is not entitled to make a judgment until the umpire actually perceives the runner's alteration, when the alteration may have been mental and made earlier. Agreed that proper coaching/training is an answer. But with the current rule requiring the umpire to observe an alteration, the rule somewhat discourages proper coaching since it more or less puts some of the burden on the runner to provide the necessary elements for obstruction to be called...- Daddio

Interference by Runner: Effect on Batter
USA rules, 2 outs, opposing team has a runner on 3rd, close game. Opposing team batter hits a pop-up right at the runner who had taken a few steps lead-off of 3rd on the pitch. I'm not sure if you are talking about the slo-mo starting around 0:17 or not. For clarity, the slo-mo looks to my eyes to be 3 to 9 rotation. For a RHP to a RHB that is screw spin.
