    14U team...increasing overhand throw speed...

No Way! You play like you practice. If you learn to throw soft that's what you'll do i the game.

    No Dominant Eye

Thanks. We're going to try a slightly open stance the move to straightaway at toe touch.

    No Dominant Eye

Thank you. I'm going a get a copy and read up. I'm trying to determine if this is a good or bad thing. Also if there are any advantages how do I help her use it?

What do you think of the Insider Bat

Well I'm certainly not going to argue with the likes of Candrea, Slaught and Gaetti. However I still like the D-Bat because the weight is closer to what you really swing. https://shopping.dbatinc.com/Training-Bats-C3.aspx

    No Dominant Eye

My DD does not have a dominant eye. It's called ambi-ocular vision. I'm wondering if she should open her stance a scooch extra to ensure getting a good 2 eyed look at the pitch because of this. She bats lefty. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for my equal eyed slugger? Thanks

    DD can't hit slow pitchers

Hitting slow pitching is no different than hitting changeups. Keep your weight back and take a strong swing like alsways.

    Third pitch?

I agree with everything Sluggers said about pitching development. As far as the timing of things though that can vary greatly. Having to play Varsity as a freshmen all depends on the schools too. Our high school makes freshmen play with freshmen. Don't forget that Lisa Ferrnendez started...

Story of a Softball Parent Gone Wild

This is outragous. I can't believe that guy. What a waste of perfectly good sunflower seeds. Actually I've never seen anyone that stupid, but I've seen a few pretty close.

    Is yelling really benificial?

I've coached only a couple girls who reacted to yelling. They were only that way because their parents yelled at them all the time. In the long run it's no way to act. Assuming you keep some players year after year you are much better teaching in a respectful manner. Everyone gets used to...

    Learning and Teaching Hitting

Don't forget that professional athletes are just amazing people. Chipper Jones could probably play forward for the Atlanta Hawks or wide reciever for the Falcons. I agree that confidence is essential but there are right and wrong ways to do things. Especially for those struggling to hit .300...

RF Positioning - Shallow or Deep

At 12U most balls hit deep to right field are probably not going to be caught anyway. Play them in and go for the out at first and easy fly balls. Also they are closer for backing up first base on F5 or F6 throws. I agree though that you have to consider the pitchers speed and how she is...

    Weight Workout for Pitchers

Marc, Do you have any recommendations on particular type of weight lifting a 12U pitcher can use? In other words curls, bench press etc. Also thanks for the daily email tips. I've got my whole team receiving them. They are very helpful. Steve

    Helmet Style

    Ken, Thanks for the help.

    Helmet Style

One kid on my team wants to use the old fashioned catchers mask/ batting helmet. She doesn't like the hockey style type. Is the old style legal? Is it a good idea?

Should I play my kid up?

It's no big deal to have her play 10U as a 7/8 year old. That happens all the time. I wouldn't keep pushing her up though. The social aspects of playing on a team are more important to kids than their batting average. Let her be a kid and have a home base of kids she plays with. Keep...
