We have our State Tourney this weekend and then our season is over. But it will be just the beginning for her. I am going to get her started on the left side with alot of T-work and soft toss. I am not that familiar with the slapping mechanics any suggestions.
That makes alot of sense! I would definately prefer her batting from the left side next year anyways. I just didn't know if it was to late "in the game" to do so. She is 14 and will be a freshman next year and I would like for her to have a foundation of hitting from the left side before she...
Thanks to all of you who for giving me such insightful advice and suggestions! I plan on "tinkering" with her tonight at practice. I don't want to hit her with everything at once so I guess I'm going to begin with her initial setup and hand placement and then go from there. Thanks again and keep...
That is one of the things that I have strongly considered Amy! She is currently using a 30 inch 17.5 ounce Easton Havoc. I started considering a new bat sometime during the season but didn't want to throw her off by doing it so we've just stuck with the same one. But a new bat is definately...
I took this video of my DD last night at practice and have analysed it myself and have made note of her bat drag and her dropping her hands. We have just come back from the District Tournament where she hit .650 over a five game period. Alot of her success stems from her speed, she beat out alot...
yepper I'm serious! our pool games begin on Sat. @ 5:00 p.m. and are scheduled through the evening and into the early morning hours on Sun. For example my team is scheduled their three pool games at 6p, 8p and then 4a on Sun. Then bracket play picks up on Sun. begining at 8:00 a.m. and the...
My question is this...is it fair, ethical, poor sportsmanship, to steal signs? I have often picked up on the catchers signals to the pitcher, being the first base coach, and when a change for instance is called I usually holler out "watch for the change". I have considered implementing a...
Thanks for the suggestions! The powers that be (board members) have decided on having a "calf scramble" instead of the Skills Competition. They are going to put five small calfs onto the field and attach ribbons on them and each ribbon is worth a value for redeming i.e. cash, gift certificates...
We are hosting a tourney this upcoming weekend and it involves ten 14u teams and ten 12u teams. It is one of those midnight madness tourneys begining Fri. afternoon and continuing thru the night and all day Saturday. We had scheduled a helicopter drop at midnight Friday but the helicopter had to...
I may very well be behind the times on some things and that is why I am on these forums asking these particular questions. I believe I have a stacked team and am willing to learn everything I can in order to pass it on to them. I have coached them to this point and I know theres more out there...
My DD has the quickest bat on her 14u team and has a difficult time when it comes to her facing a pitcher that is throwing slower than the ones she is used to facing 48-55 mph. What I have her doing is squaring around and showing bunt and then pulling back when the pitcher is in her "K"...
I believe that what i was describing was what I know to be bat drag. they mantain the 90 degree angle and then snap the bat head and extend the arms at contact. Is this not proper mechanics?
Not really Mark. Bat lag really isnt the issue. The girls maintain their "power V" and then snap the bat head around on contact and then follow thru with a wrist roll. They are all performing a powerful, quick swing with the hips and shoulders clearing. There lucky to even hit the outside edge.
Thanks for the input! Yes my girls tend to rip the inside pitch foul and it keeps me on my toes at third! I have used the "T" and set the ball on the outside edge and back and they continue to use a normal swing against it. The front shoulder needs to stay closed longer and I believe telling...
I coach a 14u team that is pretty salty from top to bottom. This is the group of girls that we have been waiting to develop for several years and they are finally at the age were they can really be coached up. One of the problems that we are wanting to address is the habit of trying to pull...
