    IR Routine for beginners

Thanks for the encouragement. We had a good, long discussion about pitching. She wants to do it to help her team next year, due to them not having a pitcher. DD has experience but since we are changing a few things, she has limitations. She said if someone better came along and took her spot...

    IR Routine for beginners

Thanks! We found someone in OKC, but unfortunately I think she’s trying to teach ball down, when it’s supposed to be palm up/ball up. We’ve only gone twice so far. I asked if palm should be up once and she said no, it’s palm down. I told my DD to do palm up unless the PC starts noticing and...

DD wants the awards, but doesn’t want to work

Excellent post. Character is everything. Attitude goes along with that.

DD wants the awards, but doesn’t want to work

Good advice. I’m still trying to learn “let them own it” regarding work and time put in.

DD wants the awards, but doesn’t want to work

Agreed. Coach’s DD x 2 made the team. One was outstanding, without question. The other is a toss up with my DD. (I did not let on to this with my DD.) Again, my DD needs a better attitude and learn to be a good teammate. Things like this hurt feelings, of course. Like you said, that’s life.

DD wants the awards, but doesn’t want to work

Totally agree here. The coaches play politics for sure. DD attitude does need adjusting, so I won’t be too critical of the coach or conference in this circumstance.

DD wants the awards, but doesn’t want to work

Having trouble with DD#1. Conference awards were announced and she didn’t receive any. She automatically launches into “I’m better than so and so,” or “She sucks.” You get the idea. She did not learn that from me. She is a decent player. It was a toss up for any awards as a freshman, who...

    Illegal pitching-no call??

I’m flat out convinced umpires in our area don’t even read the book. We saw one girl the other night, start her backswing, go forward with her arm, reload into another backswing, and then pitch. Illegal or not? I thought it was illegal. Maybe not. No video.

    Illegal pitching-no call??

Well, I can’t even find the stupid video that all the fuss is about, so you win. I’m technologically challenged, otherwise I’d post it again. (Comment #49 has it for some reason.) Perhaps it’s this site’s policy, but it’s not illegal within certain parameters. It’s one thing to watch a...

    Illegal pitching-no call??

I’ll bite: 1. Freedom of Press 2. Video shot in a Public venue 3. Video not being used for commercial or exploitive purposes 4. Individuals and venue in video can not be readily identifiable. Faces, names, etc are blurred. 5. Who said her age? Maybe she’s 18. Maybe she lives on her own. 6...

Drills, dry runs going great. Ball in hand-OMG

I posted this because I was excited she was getting the drills down, not because I was disappointed that she can’t pitch full distance yet. I was experimenting to see what happened when we put a ball in her hand. We had a good laugh because we both know it’s not time for that. Her mechanics...

    Illegal pitching-no call??

You may have missed one of my posts, where I said we’ve encountered teams we’ve beaten or poor pitchers, whose foot drag was more than questionable and it was not called. Umpires who attend the certification clinic in our area at least, will allow certain things to slide with poor pitchers, to...

    Illegal pitching-no call??

Again, I’m no expert, but I guess if I were an umpire, I might look for dirt flying up from the drag foot. Just a theory. I mean I wouldn’t just look for dirt and start calling illegal pitches, but I’d take notice and keep a more watchful eye, I suppose.
