Shooting softball is one of my favorite things to shoot....
Two high school pitchers who played against each other from their early days in rec, became friends in our league's all star teams and continued their rivalry into high school. Both are headed off to play DIII next year.

Break the girls up into 2 or 3 groups (4 or 5 girls in a group) for drills. That way they are rotating through the drill quicker and don't have a chance to stand around and get bored. You can have one group working on fielding another on hitting, etc. Then after say 15-20 minutes the groups...
I'll try to add what everyone else said...
I think the biggest thing is making sure the girls know they can make mistakes (of all types) and not get yelled at/in trouble by you, your assistant coaches or even their parents. You'll have to tell them that, repeat it and put it into action...
A couple of years ago I made it mandatory for the pitchers/pitcher helper, in my town to wear a mask. After years of watching near misses, quick reflexes and one off the chin of a girl who was wearing a mask I decided it was to easy and cheap not to do it. I don't care what baseball does, I...

For your first question.. I think doing a fair draft and keeping several teams for the...
Coach Al,
Maybe you should touch bases with the other organizations and see if they have an interest in changing up the rules and if they do maybe starting up your own league, if the local town won't change. My town and four others did that two years ago when the league we were in was...
Hi Coach,
I'm the softball commissioner for our town and one thing we do is send flyers home with kids through the schools. I also send the occassional email update to the parents to keep them up to date. You may really need to focus on getting the word out that you have made changes and have...
Hello
Hi everyone,
Well I don't have the long softball background/history that most of you have. I am a rec coach for a small town. I call it rec but with my age group 13-15, it definitely isn't rec. We play in a league that does limited travel to other towns (within about 30mins) and...
