    I too, find this inexcusable. When you coach younger age groups, you have one on the future. You are committed to the growth of every girl you take at tryouts. I have always batted the roster . Whatever the result, I have never regretted it. Some of the girls have gone on to get their education...

    I don’t believe the weight of the volleyball is the issue. I think it’s the repetitive motion. I’ve had some girls require surgery, as a result.

    The Decline of Umpiring

    As a long time coach and assigner, here’s my 2 cents: The great majority of umpires are doing their level best, but are subject to the same frailties as the rest of us( pride, bringing a bad day to the ballpark, etc.) Being an umpire is not for the thin skinned. I can’t think of another job...

    Looking at it as a coach, I would want to know as soon as possible so I knew what I needed. Nothing personal. I think it’s bad policy to wait on players that appear to be looking elsewhere. Again, nothing personal.

    I really like the bouncing ball drill for letting the ball get deeper. I have never had success using tee work for timing.

    I thought the 2013 was hotter. The 2014 are still pretty good. Many hot bats seem to be particularly fragile.

    More on young players committing early

    She throws well but I doubt 70 mph is something she does often. I have a friend whose daughter was playing the bandits this fall . They had her low 60s. Someone told me in the spring she was throwing 70 plus. Her high school team was beaten handily in regionals. People throw those numbers...

    This is an interesting question. Im sure everyone on this board has seen at least one girl who had poor mechanics, yet made it work at a high level.

    Desire to play college ball

    Ive seen my share of D1 games and never saw a girl that was not athletic (except for the occasional over sized pitcher). To say there are alot of " awful " D1 programs would be subjective I guess. Most mid majors would get run ruled by SEC teams. Does that make them "awful"?

    FWIW.I wouldn't wait either. Maybe some coaches feel comfortable doing that. I don't. I know it's a hard time for coaches and players. I've had some experience with moms and dads just window shopping. No thank you.

    Sometimes teammates can make it hard on underclassmen that take starting spots from upperclassmen, regardless of obvious ability differences.

    Runners on 2nd and 3rd

    I presume the runner on 2nd would hold on a ball hit to the left side with no force at 3rd.

    MLB to ban home-plate collisions

    I hope they adopt a rule similar to the obstruction in fastpitch. Just because " it has always been that way" really doesn't justify it. I don't see the current rule adding to the game.
