List of Nursing Friendly Softball College Programs

Grand View University, Des Moines, IA. NAIA. Great softball program (top 25 while my daughter played there) and great nursing program. Coaching staff and faculty worked well with student athletes. Several starters in my daughter's cohort were nursing majors. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

Another Coach Accused Of Improper Conduct.

I read through this whole thread but admittedly did not read the whole article about this. There is nothing to say that both things aren't true... SA's could have been disciplined for team violations AND the coach could have been entering the locker room making them feel uncomfortable. The SA's...

Talking to a D1 coach about transferring and a walk-on

Because her current coach knows and seems to be supportive she's in good shape- that's half the battle. Plus, NAIA schools have different rules so I believe she should be free to contact the DI coach directly. She should probably check with her current coach/AD for advice- I'm sure they've...

    throwing with opposite hand

Let's say that you have a player near the end of her competitive career with a career ending injury on her throwing side (ucl)- can still hit and opts out of surgery for a variety of reasons. Now, thinking about both the short term (next season) and long term (rest of her life, ie coaching...

DD made HS Varsity... first game Feb 9

Congrats! My daughter had an amazing HS experience. Enjoy every game- it will go fast. We are down to our last two college seasons.

    If you daughter plays/played DII...

This is spot on- for any level- not just DII. This list should be moved to it's own thread IMO. Recruiting process is a lot of work and take a lot of research and even then things may not end up exactly how you plan. This is a great list for people to consider.

    Prepare for heartbreak

She is a junior- but her college time includes a transfer after her freshman year from a disastrous first choice of schools. She should be in the hitting lineup, but like most of us- she wants the whole package. It's funny how you can think you're doing everything right and a little bit of...

    Prepare for heartbreak

I don't post here much but have been following along for years. I enjoy keeping up with topics and people and all of the colorful characters on this board. I would say I even draw strength and comfort hearing that many of you are going through the same things we are in our house. This is...

    Last words of (softball) advice?

Someone already mentioned something like this, but I think it's worth saying again- prepare DD that your teammates will not all be nice people. My DD transferred after her first year because she was on a team where girls tried to emotionally and physically sabotage each other, among other...

Are too many making a mistake to play college softball?

I come at this through two points of view. I have a DD who plays college softball and I work with students at a large university (not the same school as DD). Having the right fit for college is important no matter if you are a student athlete or not. If you choose a college because it has the...

    Suggestions

Yes, podiatrist is the way to go. My DD has inserts for her shoes from the podiatrist that helped her flat feet problems. Find one who specializes in sports if possible so that he/she understands your DD's needs.

    Batting gloves

My daughter started burning through gloves quickly in the last several years. DH thinks it is because they are being made cheaper and cheaper. He went on a hunting trip and came back with some women's shooting gloves (don't know brand- sorry) which seemed better made and for a good price...

    Finding mailing addresses

Most college athletic websites have a tab that will be "Athletic Department Staff" or some such thing. This usually lists all coaches and other staff and usually has their campus address. Otherwise if you address it as: Coach "X" Athletic Department XYZ University City, State ZIP It will...

    Proud moment :)

DD is now a freshman in college, but when she was in 6th grade they did a football unit in PE. Teacher told kids to self select into an "experienced" group and a "beginner" group. DD was the only girl to choose experienced. Teacher questioned her several times and she insisted she wanted to...
