* understand that rules differ in different sb venues but some say batter doesnt have to try and move to get out of the way of getting hit by a pitch and still be awarded 1st base.

How do you coach your players?

Do you want them to get hit by a pitch?
Or
Make attempt to move?

I think you missed a difference. I would not allow batters to move into a pitch, but I don't think that they have to try to get out of the way. (Of course, if it is in the river, it is a ball even if they get hit (I think))

I have not coached my hitters either way.

Too bad pitchers don't uniformly throw harder. We would have less of a debate. I can't imagine too many batters wanted to wear a Paige Lowary fastball.

If I was a coach there would be no way I am telling any kid who I didn’t provide genetic material to produce to not move out of the way of a pitch.

DD is on the brink of setting the Career HBP record at her school. I am super proud.

I would never instruct a player to get hit.

But, you know, it's not my bruise so I'm pretty OK with it when it happens.

Prefer players to be able to continue playing the game and not have avoidable injury take them out.

Moving could be critical.
Not moving can be helpful. Only because
Rules benefit the batter, but the batter could do more to influence the game than just getting to first.

I favor the rules that say batter must attempt to move out of the way.
Give the inside river back to pitchers, and make batters use skills to get on base. Not bruises.

Leaning in over box line is weak. Even though the batter might take a bruise umpires should not let that be an excuse to not call the batter on purposely getting in the way.

Rainey Gaffin, Univ. of Tennessee. Big, strong player. Took a pitch up and in while trying to slap. Suffered a broken arm and missed post-season of her senior year.

My DD pitched a game against a team for a second time. First time 1 hit 1 run (on an overthrow) in 5 innings. Second time their coach believing they could not hit her was having batters stand in the river (line was worn out) trying to get hit. I did not know the rule was completely in the box or realize until toward the end of the game or I would have told her coaches. She hit 3 and swears 2 of the were strikes.
My problem is someone will get hurt. The girls should be trying to improve hitting. Always wrong to cheat to win win because you are better.
