Yes, it is a lot of work - but yes, it is possible. Same with any other academic goal.

William Jewell certainly is nursing friendly. But it is in Missouri, not CA.

Grand View University, Des Moines, IA. NAIA. Great softball program (top 25 while my daughter played there) and great nursing program. Coaching staff and faculty worked well with student athletes. Several starters in my daughter's cohort were nursing majors.

One of my kids played a year of college ball to check it off of her list. Then hung it up and transferred to her nursing school of choice. Hated to see it go, but on my life, I can't imagine how an athlete could balance nursing school and ball. It is literally all she does. Hats off to those who can make it work.

The other thing I would say here is ask the coach of the team as well as the nursing program dean if there is a student-athlete who has graduated with their BSN who they can put your dd in touch with to verify they had no issues moving through the program while playing ball. They are the only ones who can realistically give you a reliable answer for that specific school.

Although I can speak ad nauseum about going through a nursing program, I cannot comment about it as a student-athlete. I think it was fairly difficult getting through the program and just trying to have a bit of a social life, unlike my roommates in different majors who seemed to be able to go out and party a lot more often. The fact that We weren’t allowed to get below a 75 on any exam in our nursing courses made me buckle down real quick. And yes - you read that correctly - no grade less than a 75 on ANY test in a nursing course during a semester.

Take any claim by a college coach that you can pursue a nursing major while playing ball with a healthy dose of skepticism. You need to talk to someone at the School of Nursing and find out the truth. Same principle applies to Engineering and other majors.

Thanks for the list! One of my DD's former teammates wants to pursue playing softball and nursing.

One of the issues with nursing programs is that in the 4th and sometimes 3rd year programs have clinical rotations that can't be missed. One of the schools dd visited had nursing majors. I remember the coach telling her they usually only played 2-3 years.
