Depends on other runners, 2 umps or 3, & what else is happening. But it is often going to be the PU. And even if it not, as the PU I am VERY aware of runners rounding third and heading towards me because I am likely going to have calls to make.

Also if the other umpire calls OBS at 3rd, and I see it and I also see them call it, I am probably going to also signal it so everyone is aware.
Yeah as the plate, I will always see the runner rounding 3rd for obstruction and touching the base. No way I would hold my arm up though for that long if the runner got obstructed at 3rd. Would be too busy moving and reading the throw for the play at home.

Might be a college game as they are wearing the new shirts with the side panels and navy pants.

This is NCAA. No obstruction at 3B - it was a tag up. How do I attach video or do I need to link to a URL?
Yes the uniform gave it away I was right lol. A copy and paste link should work depending on the video player and site it's coming from

Pics are hard I can see how this could be obstruction under the ncaa rule set but not any of the little kid rule sets [...]

Inevitably, someone will say, "They changed that rule." No.

The catcher moves to block the whole base/plate before she had the ball. That is obstruction under NCAA rules.
Did the umpire call the runner out? That would be for the exception of "the runner is clearly beaten by the throw."

So Cal
clear as day, moved into foul territory without the ball. OBS

The defensive player can be anywhere they want without possession of the ball. It's not OBS until the MOMENT that they impede the progress of the runner. Where the runner might be in the future is not a consideration.

The video isn't great, but it appears that the runner did not change her direction, speed, or timing of her slide because of the position of the catcher before possession. Once the catcher has possession, she can also be anywhere she wants.

I see an incorrect OBS call.

Video shows catchers movement Crossing path of Runner without the ball.

This is a judgment on the opinion of the umpire upon timing of the play
that's all it is.

Timing of both The Catcher And the runner making an alteration at the same time. Catcher moved over Runner altered course.

It's hard to see *kinda appears the runner may have altered their running course because of where the catcher went appeared at the beginning of the video might have happened.

Under NCAA rules only this is obstruction all day long. The catcher moved into the base path before the ball is received with the runner heading home. Really good call. Exactly what you are asked to call and how to call it. There are no additional considerations in NCAA rules. As I said earlier - black and white.

Under other rulesets I really don't see the runner long enough to decide whether they were visibly obstructed. So not willing to say based on this angle.

If that is OBS they have another rule to fix. She did not obstruct the runner's path. (slow her down or change her coarse). I fact see does an excellent job of avoiding obstructing the runner with her bull fighter tag. Ole. I see it as a great play by the catcher.
