Mike, sorry but don't see the correlation between Trout's whipping the barrel and your students attempt at turning the top hand with the red rubber device..

The way they TTB perpendicular to the forearm is what I’m showing. Maybe not a perfect match , ok. Some swing the bat like using a hammer and that causes problems that are hard to fix .

Mike, most of those who promote "swing down to" are attempting the hammer from a fyb leveraged position. I will say the demos they show are lacking the posture and leverage position. The hammer approach will not work if you're abaf or attempting to swing during the shift.

I think I agree with your statement, I'm not teaching the hammer approach. In the context of teaching the HLP at this time I'm only talking about TTB. As things unfold further in the swing it will hopefully make more sense. If your teaching a different swing , then this might not be as important but in my journey with this, how you initially TTB is very important. The understanding of why the barrel is turned perpendicular to the forearm in my beginning I could have used a deeper explanation. Thanks TDS good statement .

When does the knob get pointed back at the pitcher? IMO, it’s somewhere around the sternum and I think TM has stated something similar. I see a lot of younger kids trying to turn the barrel behind the back shoulder and wondering if you use the sternum for a check point. I understand that the pattern is off if dragging that bad with the bat.
