Recently DD had a checkup and found out her distance vision needed corrective lenses. Wanted to ask around what others on the forum can share for their DD's that wear glasses while playing.

Any particular type of sports glasses? What does she do for sunglasses?

I have no useful input, just following. With the new year (benefits reset) was just shopping for some sports glasses for mine.

Can they wear contacts? I started wearing them around 10 years old. Could never stand to play in glasses.

^^^ This^^^ I was going to ask if this was a possibility for your DD (it's not for everyone and for a variety of reasons). Contacts worked for both of my DD's from somewhere around 12/14U...wasn't always easy but for them it was the best option.

Just got a couple new pairs of my regular prescription glasses.
Never wore glasses in softball though. Absolutley can imagine the glasses would have gotten thrown off my face a few times. Think would have consider contact lenses if I needed them while playing.

My DD just wears her regular glasses. Always wore the RipIt mask in the field and of course, the batting helmet has a cage. She never had an issue. Glasses never moved, never got broken. Surprised me to no end to be honest.

I always thought she didn't like wearing contacts, but it turned out she and her mother had some sort of disagreement when she was 9 or 10 over contacts that I didn't know about and she wouldn't wear them out of pure stubbornness or spite.

Starting last year as a college freshman she now wears contacts for games, but still just wears her glasses for practices. So yes, having to be right went for 10 or so years.

Great input and much appreciated. DW wears contacts (I'm lucky no glasses yet) and that may be the route we go. Definitely makes it easier with sunglasses as well.

Consider contacts.

Our experience: DD now 12 started wearing glasses at 4. At the beginning of 10U her prescription changed requiring her to wear bifocals. That’s when the problems started. Through 2 years of 10U while her pitching was never affected, her batting average steadily declined, she started striking out looking often, and getting HBP frequently. Her confidence was shot, and she became scared at the plate. She had started becoming frustrated with being a pitcher only on Sundays. Even had EH used for her during pool play.

Looking for ways to help her out, I stumbled on to a thread on DFP about convergence issues. Contacted an eye Dr who specializes in this and they advised to get her into contacts ASAP, even offering a free trial pair. Fast forward to the present: just finished up first year 12U batting .350 and strikes out much less and had 0 HBP. She’s a totally different person at the plate.

Contacts kept my daughter from quitting the game!

I bought my kid every kind of sports glasses. RecSpecs, prescription sunglasses, and Athletic glasses....

It was $1000+ waisted as she never wore them. She only wears contacts.

Her choice is 100% fashion based and is not practical.

Yet she still wears crocs.
