Her trail leg seems to be internally rotating correctly, but the right side of her hip seems to be stuck - it’s not getting pulled through.

I think that’s what’s setting off your “something doesn’t look right” sensors.

But I’m at a loss as to how to fix that - other than saying “rotate your hips more”.

Right..maybe she compensating for her front side going left too much by keeping the back hip back so that the throws don't go left??

She starts good but then moves her elbow under/around the ball instead of moving the ball around her elbow(less ER more pushy).

Water bottle drill is probly good.

Kids are so fun and amazing. It appears her front foot is coming down flat-footed. When the flat-footed landing happens, the arm will naturally release with a side-arm type throw. Her body is tipping over to allow a posture for the side-arm type action, giving the illusion of throwing over the top?

Have her try to keep shoulders level and glove to chest to make the side-arm throw when the lead foot comes down flat-footed.

How we land on the front foot should give us the arm angle naturally. Landing on ball of foot will tend to be a throw over-the-top.

May have her goof around with separating hands when front foot is close to hitting the ground.

Love the 1/2 kneeling turn drill. Great for working on timing...which I think is the issue here.

I like her pullback and arm shape/path. One thing I'd like to see a little more of is hip/trunk resistance. That might be causing her to get slightly pushy at foot strike, and causing her timing/balance to be a little off. - As she's striding forward, the two (hips/trunk) should feel like they are working against each other, not rotating together. Situation will determine how fast this sequence needs to happen.

As far as after release, I like to use the cue just let your arm "unravel". Whatever it does, let it happen, as long as it's comfortable.

With her lead arm, let it clear naturally. Don't force anything...elbow pull, etc. If you try to create this movement too early, it throws all of your timing off.

Hope this helps some!

Thank you.

Yeah I also had her do half-kneeling, arm behind and staggered standing drills as well. That should help with feeling hip/trunk resistance. She has had the same issue with her hitting (which has improved a bit of late)..I'd rather not tell her too much (just like with her hitting..things can get contentious between us if I say too much...) so hopefully these drills along with some long toss and her adding a bit more muscle to make it easier to "feel" things, will help. Just waiting for MS ball to end so I can do more work with her...

I really like the staggered stance for feeling the hip/trunk relationship. I think it forces you to feel and work through the resistance.

I think you've gotten some good suggestions observations.

Just my 2 cents. We always talk about equal and opposite in how the body should be working. I don't see her front side working equal and opposite of her throwing side. I think that's what is noticeable about her glove and front side near the middle to end of her throw.

One great piece of advice given to us years ago was to go through not to. Don't throw the ball to the person throw the ball through their chest. Same with running never to the base but through (1B). Thinking like a boxer...a boxer doesn't punch the nose to hit the nose...the punch to drive the nose through the back of the skull.

Hope that helps. There's lots to like about your DD but I am seeing what you're seeing and why you'd be concerned. I think she can clean up her motion/delivery and find even more success. We work...Wasserman with our DD and we've seen noticeable improvement over the years.
