Rad, I love your thought provoking questions, this one raises more questions as far as what was said, when and ages as to the degree of trashiness it could be anything from cringy and unprofessional to criminal, or possibly an attempt at humor that was misinterpreted, or, or, or….

This a failure of the scheduler or org, youth umpires coaches should always be at l3ast 4 yrs or more older than the players

@RADcatcher, you have complimented me on my willingness to be open and share my embarrassing stories ...

I've done this.

Granted, I was 14 years old and doing a 14u softball game for $10, a soda, and a candy bar in the late 1980s. My ex-GF may have been playing in that game. And maybe my GF-to-be ... for a few weeks ... it was a whirlwind summer romance.

Failure!? Failure!? As a then-14-year-old boy surrounded by a couple dozen 13- and 14-year old girls playing a game I love ... from my point of view that was FAR from a failure! 🤗

It was also the late 1980s in a little town local rec league. We didn't even know "licensed umpires" existed. To us, a licensed umpire meant they could drive.

Today, I absolutely agree with you. :giggle:

You will be happy to know that I mended my hedonistic and wayward behaviors in the following years. Just a few years later, I was in scholastic bowl and would flirt with the teachers/coaches of other teams. True story.

Edit to add: These days, I'm looking for the half-drunk mom passing out fried chicken in the dugout.

A couple of years back we got word that one of the umps (prob in his 30s-40s) who would work our Rec games got arrested. We had known him for so long and back in rec DD was a catcher so he knew her name and everything. It def creeped us out.

Dealing with sexual misconduct is like maintaining a garden. You have to weed it everyday and the weeds still comeback. But that is infinitely preferable to the attempts to sweep the dirt under the rug - a practice which is still going on, unfortunately.
