It may be difficult, but explain to her that she needs to throw a catchable ball back to the pitcher. A catchable ball changes based on the pitcher's ability. I am ONLY talking about when throwing back to the pitcher. Throws to other positions are fair game. I'm also a bit of an old school, tough love, parent. My DD is 15, I have to tone her back when we are getting loose sometimes. I'm old and need to start much slower and much closer. If we are close and she cuts one loose, it may not hit me, but stopping something wild from hitting the leg or mid-section takes a faster move than i need to be doing, especially without being loose.. Occasionally, I have to respond in kind without saying anything. Throw the ball to your DD harder than she can handle a few times. Sounds mean, but maybe she needs to know what it feels like to the other girls. JMHO

I totally agree which is why I want to fix this issue. She is the youngest and smallest on her travel team and is one of the youngest on her rec team as well. I would love tips on correcting her throwback speeds to the pitcher.

I understand the responses about not wanting her to hold back on her throws but at the end of the day, the last thing we want is girls getting seriously hurt. When my daughter was a very young 7 playing 8u, there was a girl on the team that was 9 and her dad would constantly tell her to throw the ball as hard as she can, even if the girls cant catch the ball. Problem was that no other kid could catch well and after enough girls got balls to the chest enough times, no one would even throw with her bc they were scared of her.

Fast forward a year and we went through this same thing with my daughter this year for rec ball as she was the ONLY person on her 8u team that could catch a ball. When we warm up, I always have her start with both feet shoulder width (with the front of her body entirely pointed at me) and we make very easy throws trying to only use our arm and core. This might be something she can try while her teammates are getting better at catching. Once they start moving further away from each other she will throw with her body. With your daughter only throwing from the catcher to the pitcher, that might be something she could try doing.
