During the Great Amazon Glove Heist earlier this year, I got a 12" Easton Professional that I broke in for one of our smaller 12U players. At the time, she was playing both MI and OF, but now is mostly OF. She's had several balls pop out of her glove, the latest during a game I missed. I was told it was b/c her glove needed to be broken in more, but when I looked at it, I immediately noticed that she had a big "dirt spot" right in the palm. I've seen the picture of Derek Jeter's glove where you can see the spot right on the index finger where he fields the ball. However - this spot wasn't from fielding hundreds of ground balls in practice.

She's catching everything - FB and GB, in the palm. How do you teach OF'ers to catch the ball higher in the webbing?

Thanks. Guessing a tcb ball isn’t going to work - may be a good use of my whopping $10 Dick’s reward.

There is a spot in every well broken in glove that while catching the ball correctly makes a distinct pop sound. Work on the sound. No rattles allowed.

By catching hundreds of flyballs in practice 😉

I tell them all that - but will need to check that she ever actually _did_ that.

That was my recommendation to our 1B, who was having an unusual amount of balls pop out of her Xeno 1B mitt. (“Are you still wearing it TIP?” “I forgot about that.”

Is her glove positioned completely vertical on fly balls? It is for some reason difficult (for me, anyway) to get girls to tilt (turn?) the glove slightly, but it makes a huge difference as the slight angle change is the difference between the ball mostly landing in the palm vs landing in the pocket/webbing.

If they do this, there's no reason to go to TIP and lose the ability to control the ball with the index finger.

What happens when she trys to catch a tennis ball, no glove?

Or catching marshmellows, no glove?

Yeah this would be my first question. Generally when you have your glove vertical you are also trying to catch it on the glove side of your body. Tilt the glove and catch it out in front of your face or a little to ball/throw side. My daughter had a big issue with a vertical glove and trying to catch it on her glove hand side.

Also, is her arm relaxed or super tense?
