Was there a way to do that with verbal instruction?
Or a visual by you standing in correct spot?

Just sayin' good intension to get it right, not good repercussion if someone doesnt see that as necessary.

Reminder a kid can go home and say
'the coach picked me up to today.'
I mean I could have just pitched to him where he was standing and nailed him in the stomach...that may have got him to move.

Sillyness aside

Think of your actions, not your intension.
Thats what causes the issue.

Its peoples underlying reasons other people are concrned with.

Also, someone elses body belongs to them.
Young people dont always consider healthy bounderies to others underlying 'issues'.

Like I said in my initial post, I asked him and showed him and it was either that or he didn't get to hit. Some of these 6 and 7 YOs look at me like I am speaking Portuguese sometimes. When I did it I was thinking more along the lines of Covid concerns. Plus all of the parents at that age are sitting there watching...That said I agree, probably shouldn't do that anymore (and hopefully won't have to..I think everybody knows where to stand now...lol)

I have physically moved a kid from standing on top of the plate (like literally on top of the plate while also facing the pitcher at the same time) when he was hitting after telling him 3 times and showing him 2 times...does that count and if so what sort of penance do I need?
You should have drop kicked him, set the tone! ;) My little 10U group is the sweetest group of kids ever.....except for one, there's always one! And yes, a swift kick has been in the back of my mind sorry to say!

I have a few that don't want to be there..I had one the other day who twice purposely knocked over my ball bucket full of balls, the second time after I had nicely told him to please not do that anymore...Baseball isn't a great sport to put a kid in to just get some exercise...that is what soccer (at the younger ages) is for...

I was thinking cattle prod, but a drop kick works too, and provides a better visual.

I have been out of team coaching for a couple of years now, but I was always big on fist bumps and high fives.

Having trouble getting used to the elbow bump thing... Still forget and do handshakes in business meetings.

Over the years of coaching and teaching 'adapt' to change is a good word!

Especially because of age and my physical challenge to perform what i teach.

Words are far more important!
Even visual que's. Like drawing in the dirt.

20'ish Years back i might have put a hand on a shoulder, or hip, or leg teaching to try to help application.
But i would ask first, the parent and student.
Rarely at that.

Pretty certain if i can teach the many things i do without touching players.
Its not necessary!

Celebrating accomplishments are cheerfully expressed thru verbal exuberation and happy action movements. Fist pumps, high kicks, and hoo'raws!

Maybe, and like I said I probably won't do it anymore, but I have to ask, how many 6 and 7 YO have you instructed??
Also, to answer my original question, I guess my penance is to get lambasted by you... :p

@RADcatcher, some of the kids at the 6 and 7 YOA level have never even picked up a bat. In that situation, it is impossible to get some of those kids to hit without positioning their arms a few times.

You can get them into an athletic position with verbal cues and demonstration. But, it doesn't work for arms and hands.

And, yes, I've tried verbal and demonstrations. You have 15 kids for a one hour practice. You have to teach this quickly and move on to the next kid.
