Being done in progression. Starting from the knees. She's most likely not doing them correctly. Never have been most graceful player but could always pitch. Played first for a while and was pretty good at it. Now position belongs to coaches dd.. Not a top tier team. I think not worth the risk in this case since not given much of a chance to play first. She does her pitching with no limits. Pitches every other day, drills every day, band work, agility class two to three times a week, lifts, etc. Doesn't like outdoor practices. Most outdoor practices are fielding and she spends the majority of them bored on the mound. Staying on the team bc she has fun with the girls.
Wouldn't recommend being a PO on a non top tier team. I guess if she's happy but that sounds miserable and non productive

I would have zero problem excusing her from those. drills. But I'm a dad-coach and a real softie.

Has she asked the coach to be excused?

Very non productive. Pitching skills aren't there yet for a top team. Working on spins and only hit 55 so far. Not sure if she would leave the team anyway - she loves the girls. Both of us miserable with coaching decisions though. She was upset last year especially. Both of us. Not playing first at all and wasn't given the chance to bat much after being one of the top two hitters the previous year. Crushed her confidence - didn't take advantage of chances given. New coach, same organization. Lineup only changed a little with plenty of strikeouts. Only cares about the pitching now - thanks coach. I'm grateful for that though - love catching her.

It's interesting, isn't it?

My DD is a pitcher but loves playing both 1B and 3B. And she's worked hard and is good at both. But her last coach kind of had a mindset that if she pitched a full game in Game 1, she should sit game 2. We weren't really happy with that. She'd still hit in those games, but wouldn't get to play 1B or 3B. And the girls playing 1B and 3B never sat.

We didn't mind if we sat some, but turning her into only a pitcher? We would have left the team if that continued. She wants to compete and be on the field. There are plenty of teams who would use her more.

"She loves the girls" is probably the single most common justification for staying with a team that might not be a great place for a player's development.

IMO, at 14U, every player should continue to be developing their basic skills as a ballplayer, which includes fielding, throwing, and hitting. I strongly dislike the attitude that Ps don't need to be competent fielders, and therefore don't need fielding reps. A good-fielding P is a big asset on defense.

It's a solid point. I was very hesitant to encourage my daughter to leave the local team with her friends. Well the local team broke up and we were forced to find a new team. Couldn't have worked out better. My daughter and I learned she fits in perfectly in A-ball, and she is learning more, playing tougher competition, and having more fun than ever.

I suspect she has also added to her list of friends.

Yes, but they live far away and they won't cross paths other than travel ball. But still, more friends and more people to see and talk to on future weekends over the years to come.
