Looking at the numbers even if you assume:

a) the percent of young adults who identify as transgendered is the same as adults who identify as transgendered (the only number I could find) and that it is evenly distributed
in both directions and
b) the percent of transgendered young adults who play softball is the same as non-transgendred young adults

the odds of this impacting your kid are about as good as this:

impacting your kid.

Humans are really **** at quantifying risk (if that is what all this bitching is really about)..blame the amydgala.

Florida
Florida's policy is not sane. It allows boys to play in girls sports.
Everyone needs to relax I think.
Its simple, who in their right mind would like to see someone born male compete against individuals born female?
I am very progressive and support people who are in transition or who have transitioned. That said they do not belong in contests against others who are born with different chromosomes.

Yet I know your DD has played against at least a couple of these players without you even being aware it was happening.

The reality is that NCAA and a large number of states have had these policies in place for MANY years with very, very few issues and some exec order which doesn't even go as far as these policies do is going to change absolutely nothing that hasn't already been happening for quite some time.

I'm so glad you brought this up. It has been on my mind every since this thread started, but honestly wasn't sure I wanted to be the one to open that can. Thank you for opening the can.

I was actually excited when I 1st heard about Sarah Fuller and thought it was cool. BUT, as I started thinking about it, I realized that there is potential double standard and that wasn't right. Either you agree with gender mixing in sports or you don't. There is no grey area here. We have to tread lightly as we wade thru this issue. What is the answer? I don't know, but I do know for me my daughters best interest is my priority as a parent.

- In all fairness, Sarah Fuller played because the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string kickers were in Covid quarantine. And so were most of the female strikers from the Vandy soccer team. Also, she kicked a squib. The opportunity to make a field goal or extra point didn't materialize. It's a one-off situation.

- But, more broadly, the flaw in the analogy between Sarah's situation and the transgender track stars in CT is obvious: males scaling down to compete with physically inferior women vs women scaling up to compete with physically superior men. I don't think many people would want to hold a 95mph genetically female baseball pitcher back. Yet, women just can't throw that hard. But a transgender young women throwing 80mph from 43 ft - ? Very plausible and a huge advantage for her team.

- I am all for trans people being who they are, and for them participating in sports and in life to the fullest extent. But science can't yet define the exact ways in which sex differences are commutable, or not. We simply don't know how much attempts to arrest and reverse the physical development of a post-puberty genetic male actually reverses or commutes them. It's going to take at least a generation of trans women playing high school and college sports before we have enough empirical data about the effect of sexual reassignment on sports competition. And even then it probably won't be enough, given all the different sports, levels and situations.

- My heart goes out to all of the female athletes involved in track and field in CT. No good or quick, easy solutions here.

If you want to limit all discussions here to only those things that will directly impact our kid, it's going to be a real boring place because most of them will never have to face a leaping 10u pitcher throwing a screwball that isn't actually a screwball because a screwball doesn't exist. It's simply an inside fastball. Wait, what actually is a fastball and why would anyone ever want to throw one?

I'm going to the pitching forum................

Just a postscript, it’s over for now. To be clear, they participated in sprint events (100m to 400m outdoor). At 2019 outdoors, they won some, they lost some. At indoors last year, one disqualified (false start), the other got second place in the 55m. Then there was no outdoor season. They’ve both graduated. Neither runs competitively anymore. And as far as I know, there are no transgender athletes currently competing in girls track and field in CT (assuming they can have an outdoor season – looks like indoors won’t happen).

Got it. Thanks for the postscript.

She played in the next game and kicked an extra point. Maybe two, but I know she made one.

OK got it. Glad she made it!

Will be really exciting when Carli Lloyd joins the Dolphins after the Olympics, if they happen.
She's the real deal.
