Dang - I wanted to get on here and rant that our gas price has gone up $0.20 in the last week!!
I haven't purchased fuel in over 2 weeks and I have no idea what prices are today. This is coming from a guy who filled up his tank every week or more often pre covid. It's hard being an outside sales guy when I am stuck in my house.

I haven’t filled my diesel pickup in well over a month. It sat so long that I got in it to move it out of the garage and it wouldn’t start. Batteries were dead.

My wife had Covid so she is doing all of our shopping now since she has at least some immunity. Weird as it sounds, I love to grocery shop and I really miss my trips to get groceries and hit Costco.

I see Mary Nutter was cancelled yesterday. What a shame.

This is a repost from a similar thread in the Playing College Softball Forum. Not everyone scrolls that far down the page so I thought it was worth reposting here. Disclaimer my DD is a 2022 so I am biased in my opinions but she is already committed and while it made recruiting more difficult it will have very little if any impact on her college career as her school is in a conference that does not allow athletes to play as graduate students.

I don't have anywhere near complete data to be certain but the anecdotal evidence suggests the number of athletes utilizing the extra year are significant at multiple levels of the sport and the impacts, both direct and indirect, are huge. Here are some examples:

DD's teammate is a 2022 Notre Dame Commit. Notre Dame had 3 seniors return as a result the coaches told her the 2022 recruiting class of 3 was the smallest they have ever had. No reason to believe that this will not impact the next 3 classes at minimum due to the extra year of eligibility granted last spring to all athletes. This would increase even more if another waiver is granted.

Arizona had 6 seniors opt to come back. This led to 5 transfers from their current roster creating indirect impacts to the schools those players eventually land at.

Heard 2nd hand that Furman currently has 28 players on the roster where they typically carry 19 creating quite the logjam.

A 2021 Missouri committed P from NY received a voicemail from the coach saying due to the Covid eligibility waiver they would no longer be able to honor her commitment. She landed a spot at syracuse but other committs might not be as lucky especially at less valuable positions.

DD's HS teammate is a freshman at Tufts, 4 seniors opted to attend grad school and utilize the extra year making the playing time prospects for those freshman considerably worse.

Those are just the examples I have personally heard about, I am certain there are tons of other stories like these and it is impacting everything from SEC, Pac 12 all the way down to high academic D3 NESCAC(this one I never expected)

In my biased opinion, DD and her teammates are all 2022/2023, the current HS players are bearing a disproportionate amount of the burden created by Covid19. They all missed 1 HS season already with this spring still uncertain and are having their college opportunities impacted as well.

Voicemail...now that is a cowardly way of breaking that kind of news to a player.

DD is a 2022...her travel team in the Midwest has a couple of 2022 players that were stone-cold D1 players; the way stuff has worked out now they are just about to take Juco full-rides & hope for D1 spots in a few years (their Juco placed something like 7 players in D1 programs last year). Our AC/recruiting guy is pretty well connected & says D2/D3/NAIA are feasting on the available talent right now. DD has a couple D2 offers plus an NAIA and a couple more irons in the fire. Crappy time for everyone.

Missed the part where someone got a voice mail.
But imo its not cowardly.
1. Its a person actually taking time to call!
2. Its another person not answering the call.
Timing or?
3. Could have easily been an email~
Which is common practice when new coaches take over position and/or changes are being made.

Voicemail would have been better if it said please call me back to discuss an important issue. Just like in medicine, you don’t leave bad news on a voicemail - but yes, better than an email, I guess.

Anyone planning on attending college should be planning to pay more out of pocket. Athletes are not exempt.

Whats the difference its not a discussion. Our Dr's office sends letters in the mail with test results.
We could never get directly through to our Coach or Dr. and have to leave messages. We dont take it personally its business.

This is very common nowadays and I am not personally offended by it. It is what it is. However there are times when speaking with someone is simply the right thing to do. If I interview several candidates for a job opening I always attempt to contact each one personally with an answer. If I dont reach them I will leave a message asking them to call me back. The importance of the situation dictates how I handle it.

Situation dictates. Agree.
Messages relay business.
This is not a situation where a coach sits in their office all day for a player to return a call.
If the player got such a message and needed to call back to get the info they would also be leaving a message. Lets move past phone tag.
