What do you mean the front leg is a style issue. When the front foot hits the ground the leg has to locked so that the batter can hit against it. If your talking about a high leg kick before the swing then I would agree that it is a style issue. If you ever looked at Hank Aaron's swing I think you would see the same thing. A lot of good hitters hit this way. I think that this the way they transfer energy from their back leg to their front leg.

Yes, the coil is a absolute and what the stride does is style (toe tap, leg/knee lift, no stride, knee tuck, etc.)
So I agree there are many different ways of getting to FYB.. however how you get there including things like tempo, control, balance etc is important as well. IMO style does not matter unless it hurts the hitters process and breaks down mechanics. The reason why I mentioned FYB is because many amateur hitters take false strides, for example just stick their leg out without getting FYB... some people might classify this as a different style, but it's also a break down in mechanics.
