Good morning DFP! So, DD2 has decided she wants to be a catcher. We have some decent gear but need advice on the glove. Shes first year 10u (9 years old) and just started catching live pitching this past fall. I'm looking for advice on the size and the brand. Any help would be great. Thanks!

really depends how hard the pitchers she catches throw. I have known 10u pitchers that hit 50, DDs mitt the time (Mizuno Prospect, no break in required) was not up to task. at that time, we got her an inner glove, and a AS CMW3000. inner glove was stop gap until CMW3000 was broken in enough for game use (couple of months). Mizuno prospect was enough for the rec pitchers she caught, but not the girls on her TB throwing in the low 50s.

that is one route, game ready mitt like the Mizuno prospect for now (with inner glove if needed), AND with a mitt that offers more protection and will last a few years and begin break in process (besides condition and playing catch, have her catch pitching lessons over the winter, now is ideal time to start to get it ready for spring).

you dont mention budget either, this will play a role, but helmet and mitt are the two areas to definitely not go cheap on.

Thanks for the info. By no means am I saying that budget is not a factor, but I will spend a little extra for better quality.

The pitchers shes catching now are low 40's at best. She has an old Mizuno now (GSX101) but its getting pretty tired. Wondering if I should bump her up to a 33". I have a 34" Liberty Advanced I catch DD1 with and love it.

Tired how? The real issue with higher end mitts for younger players is not price, it is stiffness and weight. I highly recommend cmw3001, but it is a tank. Probably same with any higher end mitts like the liberty (remember, a little stiff to an adult is impossible to squeeze for most 9 yo).

I’m looking for recommendations for my DD who is 11 and catching a girl throwing 50. She’s had the Wilson Aura for about 3 years but with these speeds she’s having trouble with her thumb again. It’s tough to find a glove with enough protection but usable by an 11 year old.

Funny enough I looked at it earlier. Will it be big enough for a 12” ball?

That’s a really important question that deserves a proper answer! I’ve never personally handled a 32.5” Fortus, I do however have a 33” Vinci mitt here and it’s plenty big enough for a 12” ball. I know, not the answer you’re looking for!

Anyone here own a 32.5” Fortus that can answer this man?

Our catcher caught 12” fine with this exact glove today. It’s a smaller glove but the pocket is plenty deep.
