Don't try this at home?

Yep...thats 1 of the 3 major things she is not consistent on. On balls up shes pretty good at keeping the rear elbow behind the hands and driving through. But on lower half balls she tends to drag the bat through with her elbows leading the way. Her right rear elbow drops too soon.

I think with Alexis being a lefty but hitting right handed, I can imagine that her left side is overpowering her right side and dragging the bat through as the other video refers to.

Agree W, drag needs to be addressed

I am right handed and bat left. I hear what you are saying here. I always felt like my front side pulled more

Ok, finally had my wife record a full at bat (sort of) of my DD (I'm "sort of" busy as 1st base coach ;)). AB was 2nd of game, runner on 3rd, worked a 3-2 count, RBI single up the middle. She's now 12yrs old and on a 14u team playing another 14u team (as you can tell by the size of catcher...lol. My DD is 5-2, so the catcher has to be 5-10.)

What I'm most interested in are thoughts about getting her to finish through impact. Every now and then as soon as she hits the ball her hands "die" and just drop immediately instead of finishing up and through.

I've included most of the at bat in vid 1 and then slo mo vid 2 of the swing and then 3 snapshots.

Thoughts on getting her to finish swing through farther after impact? Thanks!

Got in some soft toss today. Trying out a 32/22 CFX. She's been using a 31/20 2018 Ghost for past season and 1/2. Still loves her Ghost for now.

Also, trying to work on not dropping hands after impact and finish over shoulder. I usually like to sit behind a net straight in front of the plate about 10ft but didn't have it with me today.

With Ghost:

With CFX:

Last game single LF: (still drops hands after impact)

She seems to do a lot things right. The last swing(and a few others)here shows the hips open early and there a bit of drag, hence the rollover. She has a bit of a ‘reach’. The timing of her load is set to slower pitching. It will need to change as she moves up.

I would work on the babe Ruth drill with good starting hip/shoulder angles so she can stay closed longer. It should help pull the slack out in time. So she won’t have to open her hips prematurely, compensate and lose power and adjustability.

I wouldn’t worry about her hands yet. See if this cleans up what your seeing. personally like her hands. I think the main teaching point is to stay closed with the lower and upper to create the stretch reflex.

I would stay with her loading mechanism. Just set angles and resistance a bit better.

I think the rollover happens because she is using the hands late, compared to TTB early and having momentum through contact.

She is instinctively trying to do the right thing here, but is going about it the wrong way.

Notice how she brought her upper arm down to a vertical position. This is correct and it's called the 'hip slot position'.

However, notice how far her hip is from the elbow. There should only be 1-2 inches gap here.

She is bending over forward TOWARD the plate (maybe 6-8 inches too far). This is causing most of these problems.

She should be standing much more vertical at toe touch, then bring the rear elbow down to her BELT level. This will twist her torso down and around. Her torso will look much different at hip slot - the hip/elbow gap will be 1-2 in. and the torso will be pointing more forward, than down.

So, do this in dry reps:
1. stand up straighter
2. swing and take the elbow much further down, to the belt level. (she is not currently bringing it down this far, it just seems that way since she bends forward)

After you master this, check the hip slot position. Also see if it fixes her front leg/knee - it should straighten as she rotates to contact.

She has a very interesting move with the bat prior to hip slot (notice how she cut the length of the bat in half in the above pic) that is somewhat similar to Mantle and other older hitters. She could be very powerful. (She may need to bring her hands down a couple inches after she stops bending over, in order to have the same effect)
