I was interested in the differential between fielding and throwing errors at u14 and under because it shows a a gap in skill teaching. In this area there seems to be a total reliance on arm strength v. proper technique. It seems as though I am always hearing that so and so has a cannon for an arm. So I go to see them play and they do have a strong arm but because of poor footwork, changing hands break, or not fielding through the ball, the throws are still directionally challenged. Now it's obviously not every throw, but it's enough.

Don't just look at the number of errors -- look at the player's fielding percentage. If your gamechanger person is scoring fairly, then that is the best indicator.

Of what? In order to win in softball you need to score more runs then the other team. If you want to compare two players the best way to do that is to see which one of them saves more runs for your team..fielding % alone does not do that.

Theres a concept that may have to do with pressure situations and confidence in them!

Right..so when you put a player in there with a lower fielding percentage but whom you have more confidence in to perform under pressure, what are you trying to do at the end of the day if your goal is to win...

What if your 3rd baseman had a fielding percentage 100 points below the shortstop. And a batting average that is 100 points better then the SS. Which one is getting noticed by the colleges?

sometimes weaker fielders are played because they help the team overall.

Yea usually because there are so many chances the % isn't that bad. But just wasn't sure if there was something different about 3B that does not affect 1B. Taking out throws and just fielding the ball - of course this depends on how the batter hits vs how fast the pitcher throws.
And maybe we just don't face a lot of lefty batters and most of the lefties we see are slappers so they're not hitting the super hard balls at 1B.

I was trying to find a % of errors or even fielding chances per position for MLB.
Rough fielding chances are 4.4 (SS), 2.85 (3B)

I'm saying if my 3rd basemen has 10 errors and my right fielder has 5 errors, that doesn't mean one is better than the other on that alone. The 3rd basemen has had 145 balls hit to her with 10 errors and the right field has had 6 balls hit to her and 5 errors, that's why fielding percentage matters too.
