Anyone have any advice for a player trying to decide what position to play? I know it would have to be infield. I'm just not sure which position would suit me best so I was wanting to see if anyone on here has any advice on it.
5'6-5'7
Average or possibly above average arm.
Not afraid of the ball at all .

Any advice would help . Thanks in advance.

In terms of quickness, short, second, third, first.

You didn’t say how old you were, but you seem tall for anything under 16. That makes short and second a smidge tougher because your center of gravity is higher. Traditionally first is for tall girls, but the real key to first is hitting.

So work on you hitting, like 70 percent of your individual practices. If you can hit, they’ll find a spot for you.

Good luck!

Sorry I forgot . I'm 16 so it would be 18u or 16u. I'm not on the smaller side as far as size goes so that's why I was thinking 1st .

I would avoid 1st if possible, you really need to crush the ball and you can circle back to this position latter if you want. That leaves 2nd, SS and 3rd.

(Another issue with 1st is it is the only position a lefty can play in the IF. So to get them some IF time you might be bumpped)

With an average arm I might lean towards 2nd. 2nd does not need to be anything special, trick is if ball is hit here it is an automatic out.

From your description I would pick 3rd next. If you need to you can get away with playing in a little bit.

SS can be really competitive and if the coach has a player on team, good chance she will play SS. Will not matter if you are better then her or not.

Why are you dismissing OF? If it's a speed thing you can counter that by learning how to track balls.

If you're thinking first, then you've got to be the best hitter on the team, the kind of players a coach can't afford not to have in the lineup. So concentrate on that. Do everything you can to learn to hit consistently and with power. First is an important position, but it's a place where teams "hide" hitters. You don't make a team by being a great defensive first baseman once you get past 10.

So learn to hit. Really, really focus on your hitting. Make it the biggest part of your game.

I would say 1st, 3rd going by your height and the fact you mentioned you have a good arm.

I've tried outfield with a slowpitch team and I'm bad at it . Not sure what to call it but I think its depth perspective. Lots of people on the team thought I would be good since I 'React like a outfielder ' they found out quick I couldn't judge the ball when it is that high. Might be something to do with my glasses as well.. Not sure what that term of reacting like a outfielder meant but I have a hard time deciding if the ball is going to be more back or closer .

Why limit yourself to playing 1 position? What happens when there is a better player at that position than you are? Remember the team comes first. Play where the coach thinks the greatest need for your skill level is. It's not how big you are, it's how big you play.
