Depends on who you are facing. Nibbling makes no sense if the kid you are facing is overmatched. Of course as you advance in age/skill level, that occurs less often

an arguement can be made for working on things during a game where you are overmatching the opponent. I mean, why waste the game by just blitzing riseballs buy them when you can blitz other pitches and also work on things? Work on your worst pitch against the worst teams, especially if your team is going to score you 10 runs anyway. Why would I care if I win 10-0 or 10-4, giving up a few by working on things that will help me in the next round? Answer: I wouldn't care.

Did this a lot when I coached baseball. This inning throw your change up the first pitch every at bat.

Depends. Will throwing an additional 20 pitches in that game make a difference or not? If you are in a multi-game per day tournament setting then it might. If you are talking about a typical HS/College setting then sure, nibble away.

Back to what RADcatcher said. My 12u is making the switch from HE to IR over the last year- (btw this is taking a lot longer than expected!) She looks good but no where near done. During this transition she has an amazing change up but cannot seem to find a fastball strike down the middle if needed. She has lost some control and thus coach isn’t pitching her as much because she is walking 2-3 per inning but also striking out 2 per inning. Coach wants all strikes down the middle and no walks-doesn’t care if the balls are hit. So....Im stressed

As a pitcher's parent, just go ahead and get used to feeling stressed...LOL!

By 12u, there is such a thing as too many strikes. The pitcher needs to work the corners and generally keep the ball low. If you look at Gamechanger, pitchers with too high a strike percentage are often giving up a lot of hits.
This is something that my daughter is finally starting to understand, and it took some time for her to get it. When she was just starting out, it was all about strike %, and "making them hit their way on". So as she got better, and more able to hit her spots, she would freak out a little when we called a pitch out of the zone. High fastball on 0-2, for example. She would want to pitch a high strike, not something higher.

I don't get to deep into the gamechanger stats pages, but WHIP is one that she has been looking at more this fall.

Hmmm? What pitches is she throwing?
Does she throw the change up for a strike?

*Coach wants all strikes down the middle?!! Does that mean all pitches?

Yes all pitches. And yes she consistently throw a change for a strike- I realize it should be low or drop before the plate but no one is hitting it yet!

The situation I was referring to was a single game. Otherwise, I'd agree... on a hot day when I have to pitch 3 games, yes, EVERY pitch counts. I didn't get the impression that was the situation.

Maybe as a pitcher her subconscious is telling her
"Noooo dont do it"

Keep working! Look up the post about Suzy Parra...great story conquering a wild arm.
Doesnt sound like your dd is that wild, got a change up that can find the plate and thats a great pitch!
