E3 for me; I see the argument for E4 but either way I'm not giving the hitter a hit if the only reason she reached was because the 1B abandoned her base.

Having said that in this case it's hard for me to imagine a scenario where the 2B legitimately has a play at 1B and the 1B has time to abandon. My guess is that if I were there watching it live there is no play at 1 and it's an IF single plus E4 for throwing it away.

If 1st base is not occupied due to a mental mistake (covering another place and not on the base) then it is a base hit. It is the same as a bunt where 2nd base covered 2nd and not first and there is no play anywhere, it is a hit. Technically there will be an E4T from the batter from 1st to second. Identifying the difference between the “fielding“ error (E4F) and a “throwing” error.

Also, C would not get a E for throwing down and no player at base, it would be charged as a stolen base if the throw was at the base the runner was going to.

So ... the error was on the scorekeeper?

Every time.

DD was keeping score while her team was batting at a tournament last year (which I'm not a fan of) when one of her teammates hit a rocket back at the pitcher. It was an almost impossible play and it tipped off of her glove and the girl reached first easily. DD scored it as an error and a parent questioned it after the game (one of the reasons I don't like a player keeping stats). I asked DD about it and she said "You always tell me if it touches my glove I should field it. So it's an error". I had to tell her that's a dad's expectation and not how we actually score games.

I love it. Exactly what I tell my daughter too. Adding if it is within 5 feet of your long legs you better field the ball 😂

DD got charged with an error in one game by her coaches while playing RF on a hit on the line that she didn't catch - I don't even think it touched her glove - she just couldn't get there fast enough. Never understand that scoring. But their scoring always confuses me. We had a girl last nite that hit a dinky pop up at second basemen who couldn't catch it but fielded it and threw it the 2 ft to 1B where the 1B dropped it and still awarded the batter a hit.

I feel your pain.

I keep GC for DD's HS team. They have someone keep the paper book as a backup and they also have the umpires sign that as the official approval. Last night the lady keeping the book was someone I've known for a while and she's pretty strict about errors. I try and keep them correctly. A couple of innings in, there was a pop up hit over our pitchers head. She turned to field it but realized it was heading towards second so she backed off. The 2B never moved and the ball dropped between them. The woman keeping the book asked me who gets the error. I told her it's a hit because I can't give an error for a mental error.

Later in the game there was a fly ball hit to right field. The RF got to it but ran by and stuck her glove out instead of getting under it. It bounced by her to the fence. This time the scorekeeper looked at me and said "I'm giving her an error. I don't care what you say." :ROFLMAO:
