There hasnt been a single practice ive been to the past few years where some kids play at 100% from start to finish,Some do, some dont.players will make it to the following season.

Hmmm...if a coach can't get 100% from the kids, the problem is the coach. Captains aren't going to fix that.

Getting 100% is not difficult. A coach has know the game and how to teach the game to children. (Part of teaching children is to know how to give correction without berating.) Kids want to play well...if a coach is giving them the tools to play better, the kids will work harder.

There is a video of @RADcatcher doing personal coaching. Coaches should study that video. She is doing drills that are boring and repetitive...and the kid doesn't even notice. RAD and the kid are having fun. The kid would have done those drills all night with RAD if she had gotten the chance.

As to the captains....the problem was that the OP was picking "one girl" to be captain for the entire season.

as far as getting 100% from the kids, I don’t completely disagree, but I would add that it applies to most kids but not all. Especially at younger ages.

there is a girl my daughters age that plays sevral sports with her, one sport she goes in spurts of not paying attention and just generally not seeming to want to be there. When she showed up at practice the first time for the new sport we cringed, and it was like a totally different kid was there, smiley and happy and having fun.

do you have a link to the video of the catching drills? Or what forum it’s was posted in?

Long speeches work great. Parents and kids love them.

In all seriousness I never like to rehash too much after a tournament or game. I would rather get it together with all the coaches and put in a plan to address some of the issues from the weekend before.

Fairly certain that was in the catching forum - maybe around March? If you click on a persons profile, you can see a history of their posts - I believe it was one of her earlier postings (IIRC, she just joined DFP within the last year).

Thank you @sluggers for that wonderful compliment to the effort of the students! 😊
(repetitive and not easy)

its really
'POSITIVE PURPOSFUL PRESENCE'
in action!

Support that encourages pushing through challenges to grow!

One of my favorite phrases from history is
"We must Endeavor to Persevere."
Looking up the words to clearly understand it means
"We must first want to try!"

Enthusiasm is a great tool !

This is a great idea for having some good fun!

It was hilarious and and humbling to find out how out of shape I really am. I haven’t sprinted anywhere for any reason in decades, I really just haven’t had a reason, nobody has chased me with a weapon, and I haven’t been stuck in a burning building. I made a nice play at first after screwing up a couple and when I failed to watch the runner on third she came home. Some of the same mistakes we have been telling the girls not to make. Lol
I was safe at second base my daughter reapplied the tag a few times and when I didn’t fall for it she tried to pick me up and shove me off the bag, so I called for her to be ejected. Good times!

I rotate Capts every game. Don't do helmet stickers for anything....that's what you are suppose to do (hit the ball, steal, score). No Game balls, we win and lose as a team. Praise them in the moment.
