I'm assuming by self toss you mean basically hitting fungo? I don't know if that will do much as far as live hitting sequence/mechanics go (really different between live hitting and hitting fungo) but it will definitely increase hand/eye coordination and it's a great teaching tool for how to hit the ball in specific directions, ground ball vs fly ball vs line drive, etc.
Yeah, basically hitting fungo. Good point about the hand/eye coordination and hitting different spots.

Started self toss early on.
Over the years developed more and more control hitting different things.
Grounders
Line drives
Fly balls
Directional hitting
helps how to adjust on pitch/ball location to create power in that spot.
Increasing power zone.

When I was on the Original Orange County Batbusters used to hit extra defense to players who wanted more.
Included players like
Julie Carpenter -Texas AM
Julie Smith- Olympic Team
Jenny Allard- Harvard Head Coach

Who knew the beginning of so much fun started training me at that young age !

@pattar

MY dd's (12U mosly 11s) team played a self hit game this weeK. They loved it and made a lot of fun of each other.
6 on a team. Defense positioned on the grass. Batter Self hits, gets one swing to reach the grass without the ball being caught.
3 outs and switch sides.
the hitting team can hit as soon as they are ready. they don't have to wait for the defense to get set. This turned into both sides sprinting on and off the field.

Self toss can help with Body to barrel awareness.. most hitters know where the sweet spot on a barrel is by looking at it. But in relation to their body or swing they perceive it to be a little closer to the hands. I struggled with that for years. Self toss helped me figure out where the sweet spot was in relation to my body and swing. Don't know if that makes sense, hard to explain

Believe it or not.. I never ever used a tee growing up :)
