She is going to play 14B USA this weekend. So my 6th grader will be going up against some sandbagging sophmores. I guess I will see how it goes. She wanted to play and this is what was available.

One thing I noticed is the sandbagging is getting less and less effective. The sophmores playing 14U in USA Fall season don't have near the advantage that the 8th graders playing 12U USA Fall. They really don't have much of a size advantage anymore.
No sophomores should be playing 14u still? Sophomores would be 05s that should be in 16s. What do they allow down there in TX in the fall?

Confused about the ages and grades you are mentioning as well. If your daughter is a 6th grader , doesn't that make her an 09?

Not necessarily. I know a couple of 08 players in the 5th grade. Birthday after the cut-off and then held back a year due to other reasons, so them being in the 6th grade could easily just be because of when their birthday falls.

Size really matters at 12U but that pretty much levels out at 14U. It is hard to keep talent in 14U as the really good 14's end up playing 18U.

USA softball doesn't age up until Jan 1. So 2005s can play USA 14U this fall.

My mistake, I assumed U.S. school grade levels were based on birth year.

I have always wondered why softball classification were not based on school years so girls in the same grade could play with one another. I guess it is probably because the states have different cut off dates for enrollment.

Have a student who is 16 and is a senior in H.S.
She started playing 18u when she was 14.

High School is a graduation year.
Does not effect travels age brackets,
of which can play up.
(imo travel is really talent levels not age brackets.)
