I know for most of my career, I choose to play AGAINST the top teams instead of for them. It absolutely cut down my championship titles but I think I became a better pitcher for it!! Good luck to your family.

The trainer works the entire body: upper, lower and core. Each session focuses on one area: shoulders, legs, back, arms, core. The men just do the workout, while the women do an extra 20 mins of cardio (mostly stationary bike, but also elliptical, treadmill) because they carry more body fat.

The biggest, easiest tip to build glute strength is “push through your heels” as you exercise.

Specific exercises:
Air squats with toes off the ground.
Air squats with a 10lb weight in each hand, toes up, bend slightly forward
Band around knees, squat and try to flex each leg outward.
Band around ankles, then knee lifts to create resistance.
Short sprints uphill, in groups of 5 or 10, couple times a week
Agility exercises: ladder, cones, box jumps, etc

The key is consistency and persistence.
Took a full year of 5 days/week in the gym to translate into a significant performance difference on the field.

And there is never a need to justify why she picked whatever school she did.

Yes, thanks for the reminder Bill. Much appreciated.

I brought it up because we are just so grateful she will play in college at all. A year ago it wasn't clear she'd have that opportunity.

Shiloh - thanks for sharing the story (so far)! There was so much biomechanical/physics training info on this forum back in the day...absolutely loved jryan and javasource (and others) going back and forth wit it. While much of it was certainly beyond what many cared about or took the time to comprehend obviously there were a few (Shiloh for example) who really embraced the golden nuggets that were offered. So much benefit can be had from understanding the body type of the athlete. Combine that with focused workouts and an understanding of what makes that individual athlete tick mentally and greatness awaits! ;-)

What do her leg workouts look like that balanced her out? Sprint mechanics work? Speed/agility? Or did she learn how to use her whole body gaining more awareness?

I'm curious as well. Not that we're going to jump right on those, but eager to learn.

It's been almost exactly a year with this trainer and she's still in the gym 5 days a week, with sprints, agility, and other drills on her own.

I have to ask..... how in the world does she find time to go to the gym 5 days a week? During school, they have homework, then add practice once or twice a week, then add individual work, ie... pitching for an hour 4 or 5 times a week, then add hitting. I can't grasp adding another 1 1/2 hour commitment to a M-F schedule that is already packed.

It’s called ‘limited social life’.

Today for instance: school 9-3, gym 3:30-4:45, team practice (includes hitting and live pitching) 6:30-8

Tomorrow: school 9-3, HS softball workout 3:30-4:30, gym 5:30-6:30, club team hitting 7-8pm

If she misses a day in the gym there are makeup sessions available on the weekends.

Everything is relatively close by and she can drive herself.
