It looks to me (just a 10u and 12u dad), that the good arm is harder to find initially, in the lower age groups.
Just for fun...
then there are those spazy throws. Those are easier to find?! LOL
Guess assesing the other players abilities on the team help make this decision.
Well often works out like that.

:)

If teams didnt tend to carry three catchers and even on a day with three games catcher might get one. so either play a second position somewhere else another game or only play 1/3 of the time...

Notice generally not all other positions
(except pitcher) rotate as much :(
Outfield maybe?

My DD is a lefty and primary position was Pitcher up til 12u but also played C and 1B. Then started liking C more than P and gave up P this summer. C (80%) and 1B (20%) now.

for past year, DD got 75-80 % of inning behind plate, one reason we moved, she wanted a little more of a break. she actually loves OF when not catching, but coaches will also have her play 3B, 1B occassionally, MI pretty much never anymore (used to get innings at 2B).

Kids these days ...

When I was a kid, catchers were catchers from the moment we got off of the dinosaurs we rode to practice to the moment we got back on the dinosaurs.

Somehow we had to run uphill to every base. Home to first? Uphill. First to second? Uphill. Second to third? Uphill. Third to home? Uphill. The walk back to the dugout? Uphill.

We didn't have lights. We had cows that walked around with lanterns tied around their necks. Until the dinosaurs ate them.

DD catches and plays OF. On last year's TB team DD split CF and catcher pretty equally. New TB team she will be OF exclusively (at least we think this is the case). Currently HS coach wants her to catch but the HS OF Coach is threatening to quit if they take DD out of center.
