I was just going to post some snark that that Chamberain kid would never hit high level pitching since she was all back all forward.

Agree with all of this. I’m hoping dd doesn’t get changed to the extreme open stride in college. Seems very prevelent.

Was looking at her setup the other day, she used to be pretty neutral/middle but is starting about 4-6” closed now. She seems to be hitting very well right now... didn’t mention it to her.

I also like no stride/wide as an occasional drill.
Who said Chamberlain is ABAF?

+ stride does not = extra power.

I said it with a heaping dose of snark. In an effort to poke fun at people that have paralysis by analysis of swing mechanics...

okay, so I agree with 98% of what he said.

Hey WW- My DD switched to an extreme open stance a couple of seasons ago. She did it on her own and honestly I wasn’t happy about it.
She has power to spare so I think it’s more of a timing thing with her.
She did/does well with both stances. Her power is up but I think that can be attributed to age and volleyball weight training program.
I agree the open stance in softball seems to be the norm now for many hitters.
Either way I like a stride in any stance in softball. Save the big leg kick for baseball.

I'm not a huge fan of the no stride, or toe tapping...but it has its place for certain hitters. As a youth coach some girls can't figure out the stride so we try the other methods with some success.

Pujols is sort of the classic no stride, Rendon is a tapper, Cruz and Cabrera have mixed it up over the years...but for my money until more than 3 or 4 of the top 20 MLB hitters are no-stride guys I'm going to call striding the prevailing wisdom...um Mike Trout?

Funny thing is it seems the instructor community is just the opposite, with most preaching no-stride or toe taps.

Stride is just a timing mechanism .. doesn't generate anymore power than no stride. No stride is most certainly not standing in the box flat footed with knees locked. Anybody who thinks that doesn't understand no stride hitting. No stride can help certain hitters learn how to use their midsection and core a little better when getting FYB. Both styles of hitters, no stride and stride get to a FYB position. If you are using stride/step as a source to generate power, then you are likely using forward momentum to launch your swing.. resulting in a ABAF sequence. Good luck hitting anything off speed at higher levels.

Both hitters getting to the same position at heel plant.. mind you Trout swing is a frame ahead in the shot below.

Flat footed and knees locked.. I don't think so

I do agree, no stride is not for everyone, same goes for stride.

No stride is a very efficient and effective approach to hitting. Theres no downside. Only here will you find people questioning people who get paid to play a game

Does anyone believe you can stretch during the stride?, making it more then just a timing step.
No more than the stretch achieved during no stride. All the best hitters get to FYB at heel plant.. some prefer getting to FYB using stride, some others no stride. Different timing methods of getting FYB.. are there key movements during this process? Of course, both use the same process and movements to get FYB.

DD has basically started striding to a no stride. Strides way early and then no strides. She has always stepped with her back foot (yes back foot) and she actually does that move and then no stride. Looks really good.
