WW, does this guy have too much batspeed? I'm worried that he might miss some pitches cause his bat is too fast.

why would you be worried about that? He clearly adjusts to both the heater and the soft stuff. But if you have a player that has tremendous bat speed, they most likely have an inefficient swing and are too long which would lead to being out front of that outside off speed pitch. Early committal bc it’s too long.

the reason why a ton of great hitters have lower or not the highest bat speeds in the history of the league is pretty obvious. TheIr swing is short which doesn’t create a long enough timing window to have the highest bat speed BUT let’s them see the pitch longer and make better decisions and have more squared balls which eventually equates to better overall numbers over a career. Thus, why they are the best to do it. classic turtle and the hare.

edit: kinda why they hit the weight room so hard instead of making their swing faster aka longer.

He’s not late on the lower swing. Good timing on that swing. The 1st swing he is out in front slightly.
Nothing wrong with either swing. Go with the pitch. Anything outside let it travel and go opposite field. Anything down the middle left center to right center is perfect. Anything inside turn on it early and send it into next state.
Nice in theory, but it doesn't work that way in real life. Outside pitches can be raked anywhere on the field as can inside pitches. Ive heard that nonsense since I was 8. I still hear it in every cage session before tournaments that I help at.
Funny I saved this video from Saturday to show the players I work with. I have to fight "well I heard" with ever new player.

Watch the first 3 batters

what is the front knee telling?
No idea . Whats it supposed to be telling me? I know its attached to a Major League batter

I think Ski is referring to the acceptance of force and the delay of force into the front knee the second gif is showing.

I still don’t understand ‘hit the inside pitch out front and let the outside pitch get deep’. How does one time this since the reaction time for the inside pitch is quicker and the outside is longer in time? 🤷🏻‍♂️

your vid wouldn’t play.

Again I have no idea what that means. Thats something that someone has made up along the way. The internet causes a lot of silliness.

The only factor in the direction the ball flies is its relationship with the bat at impact. A deeper ball will fly oppo hit a ball out front of the plate tends to pull. Its just the natural bat path regardless if its and inside or outside pitch. It's all timing but to purposely hit a ball opposite field you must retard timing

The video shows 2 Homer's on outside pitches to pull and a long opposite hit ball on an outside pitch. Here's the link maybe it works. You can Google royals indians 7/25

simple is good. But it’s just not that easy. Here’s Trout adjusting. Notice the soft front leg until ‘GO’? See the Lateral ‘tilt’ adjustment? Guys are constantly ‘retarding ‘ timing with ‘inside out’ or ‘oppo’ approaches so they can be adjustable. They don’t care which field the ball goes if they know they had to ‘adjust’ timing. This isn’t golf. The whole point is to delay as long as possible to get as much info as they can and make their best decision. They know a pull mentality is early committal and short through the zone. Same goes for swing ‘up’.

Everyone plants on a soft knee and it starches at go time. Google anything Trout does or any other MLB batter and theyre always in an unlocked position which allows adjustments. You must be fluid

I have no idea what lateral tilt adjustment means. Thats made up internet stuff. I don't do the internet stuff. You would think we would have more .400 hitters in MlB thanks to all the youtube channels and video equipment. Fastpitch and baseball are very tough sports

For anyone reading this research Derek Jeter. He's the best I've ever seen at hitting opposite field. God will strike me down but he's better than Tony Gwynn at it. I'm dead....

Nice analysis all. The players in this thread so far are:

6'4" 210 lb
6'4" 235 lb
6'3" 240 lb
6'2" 235 lb
6'2" 195 lb
5'11" 185 lb

Problem for me is how many young ones do you have that are anywhere near the size needed to pull an outside pitch with any kind of authority?

Here's some old-school internet teaching

‘Soft’ is subjective here. That’s not what I meant. I was referring to how slow/quick force gets into the knee but more importantly how it was delayed in the previous example. Here’s Trout on a fastball. A bit late. Not very soft, force is accepted into the front leg much quicker than the other example.

why would DJ have an ‘oppo’ approach? To ‘retard’ timing? I think of it more as to ‘control’ his timing of his barrel ‘swing’. Thoughts? Nothing retarded about 3,000 hits.

the internet is a faster way to get it right or get it wrong. .400 hitting is earned not bought or sold.

So you love technology :)

A lot of us don't have 1x1 access with Trout, Pujois, Jeter etc.. so the internet is helpful. It's been very helpful for a lot of members on this site as well. And just because you have not heard or don't understand a term.. doesn't mean it's some silly made up internet term.
