I gotcha. She's just had issues pulling the elbow thru first. Gonna work on the J Stone progressions as well tonight hopefully.

There was a gif of a girl in college, i think it was a red and white team, who throttled a home run and she had a huge core move before she hit. I think it was last years world series, can't remember. Been looking for that to use as an example. Does it sound familiar? Was a righty.
Anything with the elbow should be an "effect". IOWs, what you see being done with the elbow, cannot be corrected with trying to do something with the elbow itself.

It's actually a sequencing problem further upstream, and I'm glad you're reading/commenting on the "Marcela 10 Years Old" thread, as that same sequencing thing applies to your DD also....although your DD has a front shoulder leading/leaning problem, instead of an early hands lead as in Marcela's case.

EDIT: Sometimes pictures speak louder than words....
T9MOM2B.gif

Notice how your DD leans her front shoulder forward towards the ball, and then has to get it out of the way by making a hard left turn with it...all before she's even able or in a position to launch the barrel from.

This is a case of a "top down" swing I mentioned in the other thread, as can be noted by the shoulder pulling the hips around, instead of the hips pulling the torso, and then shoulders around.

Mudders, can you elaborate on the front shoulder issue you are seeing. I see a lot of hitters going into heel plant with an attack angle (front shoulder down)

Juls, it's not so much the "attack angle (front shoulder down)", which in fact it a good checkpoint for hitter's in their launch position (you don't want the shoulders "upside down" with the lead shoulder higher than the rear at toe touch...level is still ok), but you don't want the lead shoulder to be taken forward or leading to the ball in the move out.

They are what need to "stay back" when you hear someone tell a hitter that...but very rarely tell them exactly with it is that they want them to have stay back. It FB's DD's case, you can see that in the move out, she leads with the lead shoulder, and then has to clear it out of the way so she can then create room for the hips to come through later.

This is often heard from the stands as "Keep your front shoulder in", but they don't realize that the player just can't simply do that, unless they prepare for it properly upstream. If the lead forward with the lead shoulder, and then try to "keep it in" while trying to then turn the hips forward...it would be like trying to clap hands, if one "hand" was the front shoulder, and the other "hand" was the rear hip. 👐👏

Reminds me of a dance move I use to do in high school, :)

Thanks for the note. We are trying to have her work on keeping ‘quiet’ shoulder and not turning back but staying linear on the move out and if there is any motion it if the scap retracting. Or the elbow peaking out of the back and not a turn.

Another question on this for you Mud. If my DD's angle was better, there still needs to be shoulder action. But is this just a case of over turning increasing the angle? if she starts more square and does a scap retraction, will the end point in the turn still be ok? Or is there still a function of the Bregman clip where he is trying to stay straight and bring the hands across so the shoulders stay closed not swinging off the ball. Said differently, is this just the load portion being a problem, or is the end also an issue? or does fixing the load fix the end?thanks.

FB, it's not about the angle of her shoulders (which are correct btw), or the amount or degrees in which she turns them...it's that she leads with them to the ball, instead of leading to it with the lower half.

IOWs, if she's supposed to get "FYB" in her launch or hitting position...when she reaches her launch/hitting position, what's still "Back" that she didn't bring forward in her move out? Look at the clip I made for you above, and when the clip first pauses, what's "back" vs. what's actually the closest body part to the ball (besides maybe her front foot)?

In looking at this again, do you mean sagittal or frontal plane? Sagittal leaning farther over the plate or frontal leaning more forward toward the pitcher? Either way i dont think i know the answer to your question. Is it possible to let me know and show a sample GIF of someone doing it correctly showing the same angle arrows you have drawn? Sorry to be ignorant on this. Thanks in advance.

I think her swing looks pretty good. She is just very flexible. Too cut down on over counter rotation or her shoulders try to get her rear foot at least perpendicular to the plate or turned in a little more. Currently she has a little duck foot. Keep her weight on the instep. Should tighten things up a little.

I think you're getting too caught up in the minutia of terminology and all...just get her so "the hips lead the hands" (and also the shoulders) to the ball....
cuAiw1g.gif

....check out how LC's hips are ahead of her shoulders to the ball (besides her front foot & legs, which body part is closet to the ball?).

Just about every good hitter get's their lower half going towards the ball before (or ahead of) their upper half...
OpdJyRi.gif
4HJDlDp.gif
orJtxaF.gif

...regardless of the style or "pattern" they use (no stride, low stride, high stride...), they all get the hip out to the ball before, and out beyond or in front the shoulders at their launch positions (same closest body part to the ball question here).

Does your DD do the same in hers?
T9MOM2B.gif

...which body part (besides the front foot/let) is closest to the ball again at the launch position?

IMO, your DD looks as though she wants to attack, time, and/or hit the ball with her shoulders first, while the other hitters shown above what to attack, time, and hit it with their hips first.
