Finally able to get on fields here in So Cal for first time since March. Alexis is 11 and we've done some backyard hitting off tee and front toss into net but no games or "live" since early March. She plays 12u Rec ball. Ill reserve my "assessment" and just get input on what you may see.

Thanks all. I appreciate all the info and advice on this site. Good stuff!

Very nice stroke (y) Ever put it low and inside and tell her to two-hop it to the fence? No instruction, just let her swing away while you shag.

There's a lot I like about this swing. Alexis looks very athletic, and her sequence isn't far off. I really like how she uses her rear leg.

The first thing that jumps out at me as an issue is an exaggerated reach rearward. I expect she's reaching back in an effort to create more power. As pitching becomes more challenging, the added length in her swing will make it a lot harder for her to be successful. Instead of reaching rearward (toward the backstop) to create stretch/tension, a better move is to keep the hands closer to the rear shoulder and pull back into the scap (like drawing back a bow, rear elbow pulls back towards 3B dugout).

You can see the pulback into the scap happening here. Watch how Maddie's rear forearm moves to level with the ground, and the barrel tips forward a bit (towards the 1B dugout) before turning behind her shoulder and getting launched to contact.

With Alexis, she's currently creating stretch, and then turning/pushing everything forward all together. We want the scap pullback to be resisting against the turning of the rear leg, creating spiral tension around the rear leg/hip and up through the scap.

BigSky: Yep we move the tee around each bucket....in/out ... up/down. The tee in that particular clip was "up and in" I think.

Here's a down and away pitch from a game back in March.Illusion crop.jpg
and a ball up ...

The player I think has a beautiful swing and who I use as an example for Alexis is Jessie Harper..jessie_harper_homer_stan.0.jpg

I would say just have fun and continue to always try your best.

I like her swing. I think the hands reaching back isn’t a issue. Not all hitters start the hands at the shoulder. Although, the hands have to then travel forward farther and there is just hint of the barrel/hands collapsing into the body, just a hint of bat drag.

For the most part just have fun.

There are a number of swings in the https://www.discussfastpitch.com/threads/pattern-sequence.29859/post-570506. The scap loads pretty much all happen after the hands move in front of the deltoid and over the back foot. The scap load is happening during the stride. Some are very subtle where the tip of the bat barely moves. Edit: Watch all from page 1 forward

In this video there are some great shot of Jessie Harper's hands and scap load at 0:56 and 1:33

- Team USA slips past Arizona despite Jessie Harper's pair of home runs

She def looks good. She does over rotate a bit. Ask her to brace her stomach going into contact like someone is going to punch her in the gut.

Tee is a bit too out front imo which could be part of the reason why her positioning at contact actually looks better in the game swing. Do you have a video of her hitting front toss or of a game swing?
