SUPER GLAD to have played when sliding and taking out the defender was what we were supposed to do.
It was strategy! Not to be mean.

The strategy was to try to hurt other players? Or is the word 'strategy' meant to hide that?

Because that is often the result - saw it way too often when it was still allowed - or at least when more people thought it was still allowed.

I am really glad it has been taken out of the game.

Yeah I was never a fan of of the takeout either although I definitely played during that era and especially at second for the DP you had better take out 2B or you might find yourself sitting next inning.

I will tell you what I am not a fan of a see alot though is the 2B putting the leg down bscially kneeling in front of the bag (sometimes home too) well before the ball gets there. At least once after two teammates getting called out at 2B in early inninngs my DD who lets say may have been influenced by her fathers hard nose style made sure that didn't happen again. Nothing dirty but when the other girls slid they let up a little and honestly weren't very agressive sliders, I have always taught my DD 2B or plate don't mess around and try and get cute with hook sliding or reach around just give me a full speed good hard slide right into the bag or over the plate.

Thats fine it changed.
It was part of the sport.
Lots of things in sports have changed.

We didnt wear helmets either.
Eventhough other sports had them.

We also used to have to make an effort to get out of the way of the pitch. Had to move. Remember brush back pitches?!
Just because you got hit by the pitch didn't mean you get first base for free.
Now batters can just stand there and get beaned by the pitch without having to move at all and get first base.
Now it's an expectation for the batter to give it up for the team and get hit by a pitch/cannonball.

Go figure.

Last year at the NCSA regionals a player from another team jumped before sliding into home and basically did a flying kick on DD's thigh. She was the starting pitcher and was not thrown out but warned. I was amazed. Yes she was out.

OUCH! That looks like softball cleats.
Hope it healed quickly!

Flying kick no ejection?
Wonder what the BLUES on dfp might comment?

The next day the entire top and side of the thigh were black and some blue. A year later she still has the scars from it. The blues talked to the pitcher and the coach, announced a verbal warning but let her continue since she was the only thing keeping her team in the game. Revenge came a two weeks later when we Navy beat them in back to back games for the NCAS Championship.
